Check a GSTIN, PAN, Aadhaar, IFSC, UPI ID or PIN code for format and check digit
Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. Updated on 25 Oct 2026.A GSTIN has 15 characters ending in a check character, a PAN has 10 in the pattern AAAAA9999A, and an Aadhaar number has 12 digits whose last is a Verhoeff check digit. Paste any of them, or an IFSC, UPI ID or PIN code, to check the format on your own device.
Leave Auto-detect selected and paste a GSTIN, PAN, Aadhaar, IFSC, UPI ID or PIN code into the box.
Read the headline under What it says and each part of the number with its meaning.
Go down the checks list: a tick passed, a cross failed, a dash cannot be checked.
Use the issuer link below the result to confirm the number was actually issued.
Most Indian identifiers have a structure you can check before a form is submitted. This page reads six of them, tells which one you pasted from its shape, names each part, and tests the check digit where one exists and is published.
| ID | Length | Built from | Check digit tested here |
|---|---|---|---|
| GSTIN | 15 | State code, PAN, entity number, Z, check | Yes, base 36 |
| PAN | 10 | Series, holder type, name initial, number, check | No, formula not published |
| Aadhaar | 12 digits | 11 random digits and a check | Yes, Verhoeff |
| IFSC | 11 | Bank code, 0, branch code | None defined |
| UPI ID | Varies | Name, @, handle | None defined |
| PIN code | 6 digits | Region, sub-region, district, post office | None defined |
For a GSTIN the page shows the arithmetic behind the check character, position by position. The state code is read against the GST portal's list, and the embedded PAN's fourth letter gives the holder type: P for an individual, C for a company, F for a firm, and so on.
What a pass does not mean matters more. A correct format and check digit prove that the number was copied without a typo. They do not prove it was ever issued, that it is still active, or that it belongs to the person or business in front of you. Each result links to the official service that answers that question: Search Taxpayer on the GST portal, Verify Your PAN on the Income Tax e-filing portal, Verify Aadhaar on UIDAI's myAadhaar, the RBI's IFSC search, and India Post's Know Your PIN Code. For a UPI ID there is no public lookup, and the name your UPI app shows before you pay is the check.
Nothing you type leaves your device. An Aadhaar number is shown masked to its last four digits once you leave the box, and no value is saved in the browser. Share links carry the ID type, plus the value only for an IFSC or a PIN code; an Aadhaar number, PAN, GSTIN or UPI ID never goes into a link.
Vehicle registration numbers have their own page, the Vehicle Number RTO Decoder.
No. A correct format and check digit only prove the number was copied without a typo. Whether it was issued, is active, or belongs to a given person or business is known only to the issuer: use Search Taxpayer on the GST portal, Verify Your PAN on the Income Tax e-filing portal, or Verify Aadhaar on UIDAI's myAadhaar.
Each of the first 14 characters becomes a number from 0 to 35 (digits, then A as 10 up to Z as 35). Alternate characters are multiplied by 1 and 2, each product adds its quotient and remainder by 36 to a total, and the check character is 36 minus the total's remainder, modulo 36. The page shows every step.
The fourth character of a PAN gives the type of holder: P for an individual, C for a company, H for a Hindu Undivided Family, F for a firm, A for an association of persons, T for a trust, B for a body of individuals, L for a local authority, J for an artificial juridical person and G for government.
The twelfth digit of an Aadhaar number is a Verhoeff check digit, the scheme UIDAI's numbering design chose because it catches every single wrong digit and every swap of two neighbouring digits. Numbers starting with 0 or 1 are reserved, so a resident's Aadhaar begins with 2 to 9. Checking needs no internet connection.
No. Every check runs in your browser and the page makes no network request with what you type. An Aadhaar number is shown masked to its last four digits, nothing typed is kept in browser storage, and share links never include an Aadhaar number, PAN, GSTIN or UPI ID.
RBI defines the IFSC as 11 characters: four letters for the bank, then the digit 0, then six characters for the branch. The zero is fixed, so an IFSC with a letter O in fifth place has been mistyped. An IFSC has no check digit, so RBI's IFSC search is the way to confirm the branch.
