The PPF calculator estimates what a Public Provident Fund account is worth at maturity. Enter your yearly deposit (₹500 to ₹1,50,000) and you get the maturity value, the total you put in, the interest earned and a year-by-year table. The rate starts at the one the government has notified for the current quarter; the date it took effect is shown beside the result.
PPF interest is worked out each month on the lowest balance between the 5th and the last day of the month, and credited once a year at the end of March. So the timing of your deposit matters. Money paid by 5 April earns interest for all twelve months; money paid at the end of the year earns nothing that year. On ₹1,50,000 a year at 7.1%, paying by 5 April instead of in March adds about ₹2.7 lakh over 15 years.
The formula, in plain text, with r = rate ÷ 100: deposit by 5 April, closing balance = (opening balance + deposit) × (1 + r); deposit at the end of the year, closing balance = opening balance × (1 + r) + deposit. For 15 equal on-time deposits D, maturity = D × [((1 + r)^15 − 1) ÷ r] × (1 + r).
The account runs 15 full financial years after the year you open it; the calculator counts 15 yearly deposits. You can then extend in 5-year blocks, with or without deposits. The rate is revised every quarter and the calculator assumes today's rate throughout, so the real maturity will differ. Estimates only, not financial advice.

At 7.1% a year, deposited by 5 April every year, ₹1,50,000 a year for 15 years matures to about ₹40.68 lakh: ₹22.5 lakh deposited and about ₹18.18 lakh of interest. The rate changes every quarter, so the real figure will differ.
Each month, interest is worked out on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of the month, at the yearly rate divided by 12. The total is credited at the end of the financial year, so interest compounds once a year.
A deposit made on or before 5 April counts in the lowest balance for all twelve months of the financial year, so it earns a full year's interest. The same deposit made after 5 March earns no interest that year. Paying early every year is the simplest way to get more from PPF.
You can close the account and take the money, or extend it in blocks of 5 years. With deposits, you keep adding money and earning interest. Without deposits, the balance still earns interest. Turn on extensions to compare the two.
PPF interest and the maturity amount are exempt from income tax, and deposits can be claimed as a deduction under the old tax regime within the overall limit for such investments. The figures here do not include any tax saving. Confirm the current rules for your tax year before you rely on them.
