Compress Image

files

Shrink JPG, PNG and WebP with a live before and after preview

Processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Updated on 25 Oct 2026.

Compressing a photo makes the file smaller without changing what it shows. A live before and after lets you judge the quality yourself, and you can aim at an exact size such as 100 KB when a form demands one. Up to 20 photos of 50 MB each.

Next:
  • Put it in a PDF Turn photos into a PDF, one per page or several per page
  • Resize the image Resize by pixels or percent, with presets for passport photos and social media
  • Convert the image JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO, SVG and HEIC, converted on your device

How to compress an image

1

Drop images on the box or click it to choose them, up to 20 at a time, or paste one with Ctrl+V.

2

Leave Mode on Quality and drag the Quality slider: lower gives a smaller file, and it starts at 78.

3

Pick an Output format or keep Same format, and turn on Resize to max 2000 px for very large photos.

4

Press Compress, then drag the handle in Before / after to compare the original and the result.

5

Press Download to save the smaller files. The work runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

About Compress Image

Compress Image shrinks JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and iPhone HEIC photos so they load faster and pass upload limits, and shows you the result before you download it. Drag the handle across the preview to compare the original with the compressed version at full size.

People use it to get a photo under the 100 KB or 200 KB limit on passport, visa, exam and government portals, to lighten images before emailing them, and to make website pictures load quickly. Quality mode starts at 78, which is usually indistinguishable from the original on a screen. Target size mode is for when a form states a limit: it tries the picture at its own size first, and only if that cannot fit does it choose the mix of size and quality that looks most like the original, never smaller than 320 pixels on the long side. The file usually lands at 95 to 100% of the limit, so you get the best picture the limit allows rather than the smallest possible file.

You can also change format on the way out, between JPG, PNG and WebP. JPG is smallest for a photograph, WebP is usually smaller again and keeps transparency, and PNG stays lossless, which is why a screenshot saved as PNG barely shrinks until you change its format. HEIC, BMP and GIF have no browser encoder, so leaving the setting on Same format turns those into JPG.

Everything runs on your device. Photos are never uploaded, which is why there is no queue and no waiting, and why you can compress documents that show your face, address or ID number. Add up to 20 files at once, each up to 50 MB, and download them together as a zip.

Metadata such as GPS location and camera details is removed by default; switch it off if you need to keep it. If a file cannot be made smaller without visible damage, the tool keeps the original and tells you. Use Resize Image when a form sets pixel dimensions rather than a file size.

Frequently asked questions

Do my photos get uploaded?

No. Compression runs in your browser using your own device's processor, so the file never leaves your computer or phone and there is nothing to delete from a server afterwards. That is why an ID photo, a signature or a medical scan is safe to compress here, and why the tool keeps working once the page has loaded even if the connection drops.

How do I compress an image to 100 KB?

Add the image, switch to Target size, type 100 and press Compress. The tool first tries the picture at its own size; if it cannot fit, it chooses the mix of size and quality that looks most like the original, never smaller than 320 pixels on the long side. The file usually lands at 95 to 100% of 100 KB, and the row says if pixels were removed.

Why is the compressed file larger than the original?

Some images are already heavily compressed, and re-encoding them can add bytes instead of removing them. This happens most often with photos that another tool has already squeezed, and with small PNG icons. When it happens the tool keeps your original file and marks the row, so you download the smaller of the two and nothing is lost.

Will compression reduce quality?

JPG and WebP are lossy, so some detail is removed at lower quality settings. At 75 to 85 the difference is usually invisible on screens. PNG compression is lossless unless you convert it to another format. The before and after preview is shown at full size so you can judge the trade-off yourself before downloading.

Can I compress many images at once?

Yes, up to 20 files in one batch, each up to 50 MB. Every file gets its own row showing the size before, the size after and the percentage saved, and a total for the batch sits at the top. Download them one at a time, or take the whole batch as a single zip.

Does it remove GPS location from photos?

Yes, by default. Camera model, capture date and GPS coordinates are stripped from the output, because a photo posted or emailed with its location intact says where you live. Turn the metadata switch off if you need to keep the EXIF data, for example when the shooting details matter for a portfolio or an insurance claim.

Photo ka size kaise kam kare?

Photo ko chhota karne ke liye, add the image, switch to Target size and type the limit you need, for example 100 KB. The tool tries the photo at its own size first, then the mix of size and quality that looks closest to the original, never below 320 pixels, and lands close to the limit. Up to 20 files per batch, each up to 50 MB, and nothing is uploaded.
