Keyboard Tester

files

Press every key and watch it light up, with how many keys work at once (rollover)

Processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Updated on 24 Oct 2026.

A keyboard tester lights each key on a drawn keyboard when the computer receives it, so a key that stays dark is not reaching the computer. A full-size keyboard has 104 keys, and holding several together shows the rollover, such as 6 keys at once.

  • CPS Test Count your clicks per second over 1, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds, by mouse or by tap
  • Dead Pixel Test Fill the screen with solid colours to spot dead and stuck pixels on a monitor or phone

How to test every key on a keyboard

1

Open the page and click anywhere on it so the keyboard types into the page.

2

Press each key in turn; a key lights up while it is held and stays marked once it has worked.

3

Hold several keys together to see the Most keys at once figure, which shows the rollover.

4

Check the Not tested yet count and the list of keys still missing; turn on Laptop keyboard to skip the number pad.

About the Keyboard Tester

When a key misbehaves it is hard to tell whether the keyboard, the cable, a setting or a program is to blame. This page draws a full 104-key keyboard and lights each key the moment your computer reports it, so you can work through every key in a minute and see exactly which ones never arrive.

What it shows. A key glows while it is held and stays marked once it has worked. The counter shows how many keys have been tested and lists the ones not pressed yet; switch on Laptop keyboard to leave out the number pad and the rare keys most laptops lack. The last keys pressed are listed with their names, which helps with keys that type the wrong character.

Rollover and ghosting. Gaming and fast typing need several keys to register together. The Most keys at once figure is the largest number of keys the page saw held at the same time. Cheaper keyboards often stop at two or three keys in some combinations, which is called ghosting; a gaming keyboard typically manages six or more, and some report every key at once.

Any layout. Keys are matched by their physical position, the code the browser reports, not by the character printed on them. A French AZERTY or German QWERTZ keyboard lights the matching place on the drawn US layout, so a working key always shows up even when its label differs.

What it cannot test. Some keys never reach a web page because the operating system keeps them: the Fn key, media and volume keys on many laptops, Print Screen on some systems, and shortcuts such as Alt+Tab or the Windows key combinations. A key in that list is not faulty just because it stays dark here. Wireless keyboards can also drop keys on a low battery, which shows here as keys that work only some of the time.

Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type leaves the page or is recorded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if all the keys on my keyboard work?

Open the tester, click the page once, then press every key. Each key lights up on the drawn keyboard when the computer receives it and stays marked afterwards. The Not tested yet list shows the keys still missing, so a key that never lights is the one to look at.

What is keyboard rollover and how is it tested?

Rollover is how many keys a keyboard can report at the same time. Hold several keys together and watch the Most keys at once figure. Many office keyboards stop at two or three keys in some combinations, while gaming keyboards usually reach six or more.

Why does the Fn key or a media key not light up?

The operating system or the keyboard itself handles keys like Fn, volume and brightness, so they never reach a web page. Print Screen and Windows key shortcuts are often kept by the system too. A key in that group is not broken just because it stays dark here.

Does the tester work with AZERTY or QWERTZ keyboards?

Yes. Keys are matched by their physical position rather than the printed character, so a French or German key lights the same place on the drawn US layout. The last-keys list also shows the character your layout typed, which helps when a key types the wrong symbol.

Can I test a laptop keyboard without a number pad?

Yes. Switch on Laptop keyboard and the counter leaves out the number pad and the rare keys most laptops lack, such as Scroll Lock and Pause. The remaining count then reaches zero once every key your laptop has has been pressed.

Is what I type recorded or sent anywhere?

No. The page only reacts to which keys are pressed while it is open, and nothing is stored or sent. The last twenty keys are listed on screen and disappear when you press Reset or leave the page.
