Rates and rules read from the sources listed on this page (the earliest on 23 Oct 2026); they may have changed since. Not covered by that date: the tola of 180 grains (Standards of Weights Act, 1939), not read that day; the Hindi page of the BIS FAQ, read 23 Oct 2026, shows Rs 35 a gold article, not the English page's Rs 45.
Under "Work out" pick Jewellery price, Karat converter or Tola and grams.
Enter today's 24K rate per 10 g; the figure shown is an example to replace.
For a jewellery price, choose the Purity (hallmark), Net gold weight, Making charge and Hallmark (HUID) charge.
Read the result, and open "Rates by karat" for the 22K, 18K and other rates from your 24K figure.
The calculator does three jobs: it prices a piece of gold jewellery the way a jeweller bills it, converts between karats, and converts tola, masha and ratti to grams.
How a jewellery bill is built. Gold rates are quoted for 24K (999) gold per 10 grams. A lower karat is charged at its purity share of that rate: 91.6% for 22K and 75% for 18K, the fineness the BIS hallmark stamps under IS 1417. The gold value is that rate per gram times the net weight. The making charge is added, either as a percentage of the gold value or as rupees per gram, then the hallmark (HUID) charge, which BIS collects from jewellers at ₹45 per article. GST is 3% on the total, making charges included, under Notification 9/2025-Integrated Tax (Rate), which kept gold at 3% when the GST rates changed on 22 September 2025.
Your own gold. When you give your own gold to a goldsmith and pay only for the work, the charge is job work on Chapter 71 goods and GST is 5% of the making charge alone (Notification 15/2025-Central Tax (Rate)). Choose "Mine (making only)" for that case.
Karats. A karat is a part in 24, so 22K works out to 91.67% pure, but the hallmark standard fixes 22K at 91.6%, and that is the figure used everywhere in trade. The karat converter shows how much pure gold a piece holds and what the same gold weighs in other karats.
Tola, masha and ratti. A tola is 180 grains, 11.6638 grams. Twelve masha make a tola and eight ratti make a masha. Ayurvedic texts round these to 12 g, 1 g and 125 mg; that scale is offered separately.
What the calculator does not do. It does not fetch today's gold rate: enter the rate your jeweller or the day's bullion rate shows. It does not price diamonds or stones, and it does not work out old-gold exchange value, wastage or discounts.
Price equals the gold rate per gram for the purity, times the net weight, plus the making charge and the hallmark charge, plus 3% GST on that total. For 10 g of 22K at a 24K rate of ₹1,00,000 per 10 g with 12% making, the bill comes to about ₹1,05,716.
Gold and gold jewellery carry 3% GST, and a jeweller's making charge is part of the jewellery's price, so the 3% applies to it as well. The rate did not change on 22 September 2025. Making charges alone, when you supply your own gold, are job work taxed at 5%.
Multiply the 24K rate by 0.916. At ₹1,00,000 per 10 g for 24K, 22K is priced at ₹91,600 per 10 g and 18K, at 0.75, at ₹75,000. Some jewellers publish their own 22K board rate, which can differ slightly from this share.
One tola is 11.6638 grams, defined as 180 grains. One tola is also 12 masha, so a masha is 0.972 grams, and one masha is 8 ratti, so a ratti is 0.1215 grams. Ayurvedic medicine uses a rounded tola of 12 grams instead.
BIS charges the jeweller ₹45 per article for hallmarking, with a minimum of ₹200 per consignment. Many jewellers show it on the bill as a separate line, others build it into the making charge. The calculator starts at ₹45 and lets you change it or set it to zero.
No. Gold rates change every day and differ slightly between cities and shops, so the calculator uses the 24K rate you enter. The ₹1,00,000 figure is only an example. Use the rate on your jeweller's board or the day's published bullion rate.
Rates and rules change; check the source before you rely on a figure.
