Estimates only, not financial advice. What you type stays on your device. Checked against sources on 23 Oct 2026, except the tola of 180 grains (Standards of Weights Act, 1939), not read that day; the Hindi page of the BIS FAQ, read 23 Oct 2026, shows Rs 35 a gold article, not the English page's Rs 45.A tola is 180 grains, which is 11.6638 grams, and jewellers across India, Pakistan and Nepal still quote gold by it. One tola is 12 masha and one masha is 8 ratti, so a masha is 0.972 grams and a ratti 0.1215 grams.

Rates and rules read from the sources listed on this page (the earliest on 23 Oct 2026); they may have changed since. Not covered by that date: the tola of 180 grains (Standards of Weights Act, 1939), not read that day; the Hindi page of the BIS FAQ, read 23 Oct 2026, shows Rs 35 a gold article, not the English page's Rs 45.
The page opens on "Tola and grams" with 1 tola; type the Amount you have.
Change the Unit if your weight is in Masha, Ratti, Grams or Troy ounce.
Under "Tola of" keep 11.66 g (jewellers) for gold, or pick 12 g (Ayurveda) for medicine.
Read the weight In grams with its tola, masha and ratti split, and the Troy ounce figure.
Convert either way, and see any weight in grams written as tola, masha and ratti the way an old bill shows it.
The calculator does three jobs: it prices a piece of gold jewellery the way a jeweller bills it, converts between karats, and converts tola, masha and ratti to grams.
How a jewellery bill is built. Gold rates are quoted for 24K (999) gold per 10 grams. A lower karat is charged at its purity share of that rate: 91.6% for 22K and 75% for 18K, the fineness the BIS hallmark stamps under IS 1417. The gold value is that rate per gram times the net weight. The making charge is added, either as a percentage of the gold value or as rupees per gram, then the hallmark (HUID) charge, which BIS collects from jewellers at ₹45 per article. GST is 3% on the total, making charges included, under Notification 9/2025-Integrated Tax (Rate), which kept gold at 3% when the GST rates changed on 22 September 2025.
Tola, masha and ratti. A tola is 180 grains, 11.6638 grams. Twelve masha make a tola and eight ratti make a masha. Ayurvedic texts round these to 12 g, 1 g and 125 mg; that scale is offered separately.
The rest of the article, and all 6 questions about Gold Calculator, are on the Gold Calculator page.
One tola is 11.6638 g, so 2 tola is 23.3276 g, 5 tola is 58.319 g and 10 tola is 116.638 g. Each figure is the number of tola times 11.6638. The converter above does the same for any amount and also splits the weight into tola, masha and ratti, the way a jeweller writes it on a bill.
A tola of 22 carat jewellery still weighs 11.6638 g; the carat says how much of that weight is gold. Hallmarked 22K (916) is 91.6% pure, so one tola of it holds 10.684 g of pure gold. The karat mode of this calculator shows the pure gold in any weight and the same gold as a weight of 24K.
This converter uses one tola of 180 grains, 11.6638 g, the weight in India's Standards of Weights Act 1939, wherever you are, and offers a 12 g tola for Ayurvedic measures. It holds no separate figure for Pakistan, the UAE or Nepal. When a jeweller's rate card states its own grams per tola, type the weight in grams to compare like with like.
500 g is 42.87 tola: divide the grams by 11.6638. Written the jeweller's way it is 42 tola, 10 masha and 3.3 ratti, because one tola is 12 masha and one masha is 8 ratti. Choose Grams as the unit above to turn any weight back into tola, masha and ratti.
Price equals the gold rate per gram for the purity, times the net weight, plus the making charge and the hallmark charge, plus 3% GST on that total. For 10 g of 22K at a 24K rate of ₹1,00,000 per 10 g with 12% making, the bill comes to about ₹1,05,716.
Gold and gold jewellery carry 3% GST, and a jeweller's making charge is part of the jewellery's price, so the 3% applies to it as well. The rate did not change on 22 September 2025. Making charges alone, when you supply your own gold, are job work taxed at 5%.
One tola is 11.6638 grams, defined as 180 grains. One tola is also 12 masha, so a masha is 0.972 grams, and one masha is 8 ratti, so a ratti is 0.1215 grams. Ayurvedic medicine uses a rounded tola of 12 grams instead.
BIS charges the jeweller ₹45 per article for hallmarking, with a minimum of ₹200 per consignment. Many jewellers show it on the bill as a separate line, others build it into the making charge. The calculator starts at ₹45 and lets you change it or set it to zero.
