The accounts the state runs: what the rate is, who may open one, and when the money comes out
Everything here runs in your browser. Files are never uploaded.Government-run savings accounts work on a different logic from anything a bank or a fund offers. The return is announced by the government rather than set by a market, it can be revised while your money is in the account, and in exchange for a long lock-in the tax treatment is usually generous. These calculators show what each one grows to under its own rules, with the rate and the date it was set on the page.
PPF Calculator runs the fifteen-year account at the rate currently notified, with yearly compounding and the option to extend in five-year blocks. One detail is worth more than the rate: interest each month is calculated on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of the month, so a deposit made on the 4th earns for that month and the same deposit on the 6th does not. Over fifteen years of monthly deposits that timing is worth a real amount.
EPF Calculator projects the balance at retirement from your contribution, your employer's, and the interest compounding on both, and separates the part of the employer's share that goes to the pension scheme instead of your balance. It is the largest retirement asset most salaried people in India have, and almost nobody knows what it will come to.
NPS Calculator estimates the corpus at 60, the portion that may be taken as a lump sum, the portion that must buy an annuity, and the monthly pension that annuity might pay. The annuity rate is an assumption, not a promise: it is quoted by an insurer on the day you buy, years from now.
The rate is announced, and it changes. Small savings rates are reviewed by the government every quarter, so a projection made at today's rate is a projection at today's rate and nothing more. The lock-in is the mechanism rather than a side effect: it is what allows the scheme to pay what it pays and, for PPF, to stay tax-free at maturity. Eligibility is defined by rules rather than by a bank's appetite, and they are specific about who may open an account and when money may come out.
Each page names the rate it used and the date it was set. When the government revises it, the page changes.
Estimates only, not financial advice.
Small savings rates, including PPF, are reviewed by the government every quarter and may be revised. The EPF rate is announced yearly. A projection uses the rate on the page today, and the date it was set is shown beside it.
Before the 5th. Interest for a month is calculated on the lowest balance between the 5th and the last day, so a deposit on the 4th earns for that month and the same deposit on the 6th earns nothing until the next one.
It is guaranteed, tax-free at maturity and locked for fifteen years. Equity has historically returned more over long periods, with falls along the way and tax on the gains. They answer different questions, and many people hold both.
A portion may be withdrawn as a lump sum and the remainder must be used to buy an annuity that pays a monthly pension. The pension depends on the annuity rate quoted by an insurer at that time, which is why any figure today is an assumption.
The rates and rules are taken from the scheme documents and each page names its source and the date. The projections are arithmetic on the numbers you enter, and the scheme authority is the final word on anything you act on.
