Estimates only, not financial advice. What you type stays on your device. Checked against sources on 18 Oct 2026.Provident fund builds quietly, because both sides contribute every month and the interest compounds untouched for decades. Part of the employer's share goes to pension rather than to the balance, worked out on a wage ceiling of 25,000 rupees. The yearly table shows where everything came from.
Rates and rules read from the sources listed on this page (the earliest on 18 Oct 2026); they may have changed since.

The EPF calculator estimates your Employees' Provident Fund balance at retirement. Enter your monthly basic pay plus dearness allowance, your age, the age you will retire, and the raise you expect each year. You get the balance at retirement, what you and your employer put in, the interest earned, the amount that went to the pension scheme instead, and a year-by-year table.
Each month you pay 12% of basic pay plus DA. Your employer also pays 12%, but 8.33% of wages up to ₹25,000 a month (at most ₹2,083) goes to the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), not your PF account. On ₹30,000 basic, ₹3,600 comes from you and ₹1,517 from your employer into EPF each month. Some employers work contributions out on ₹25,000 only; people who joined after 1 September 2014 earning above ₹25,000 are not EPS members, and the employer's whole share then goes to EPF. Both options are on the page.
How interest works, in plain text: EPFO works interest out every month on the balance at the start of the month, at the yearly rate ÷ 12, and adds the year's interest to the account once, at the end of the financial year. A month's contribution earns from the following month. With the same contribution C each month and an opening balance B, one year's interest = B × rate + C × 66 × rate ÷ 12.
The rate starts at the one EPFO set most recently, with its date shown; EPFO fixes a new rate every year. Interest on employee contributions above a yearly limit is taxable. Confirm the current rules for your tax year. Estimates only, not financial advice.

EPFO works interest out every month on the balance at the start of the month, at the yearly rate divided by 12, and credits the total once, at the end of the financial year. A contribution earns interest from the month after it is paid. The calculator follows the same method.
The employer pays 12% of basic pay plus DA, but 8.33% of wages up to ₹25,000 a month, at most ₹2,083, goes to the Employees' Pension Scheme. The rest goes to your EPF account. On ₹30,000 basic, that is ₹3,600 in total, of which ₹1,517 reaches EPF.
The calculator starts with 8.25%, the rate EPFO set for 2024-25 and recommended again for 2025-26, and shows the date it applies from. EPFO fixes a new rate every year, so you can change it to see what a different rate does.
Retirement balance depends on your basic pay, your raises, the years left and the rate. On 30,000 basic at age 25, with a 5% yearly raise and 8.25% interest, the account grows to about 2 crore by 58. The year-by-year table shows how much of that is interest rather than contributions.
Interest on employee contributions above a yearly limit is taxable, and withdrawals before 5 years of continuous service can be taxed. Most other EPF interest and the final balance are tax-free. Confirm the current rules for your tax year before relying on them.
No. The EPS share is shown separately because it builds a pension, not your PF balance. The pension depends on your pensionable salary and years of service under the Employees' Pension Scheme, not on the amount paid in.
Rates and rules change; check the source before you rely on a figure.
