Open an .eml email file to read the message and save its attachments, no mail app needed
Processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Checked against sources on 17 Oct 2026.EML Viewer opens saved emails (.eml, up to 20 files of 100 MB) in your browser and shows the sender, recipients, date, subject and message text, with every attachment ready to save singly or in one zip. HTML emails are shown as plain text, so nothing in them loads or tracks you. Nothing is uploaded.
Press Select .eml files, or drop saved emails on the page; they are read on your device.
Read the sender, recipients, date, subject and the message text.
Save any attachment from its row, or all of them in one zip.
Press Download as text to keep the message as a .txt file.
An .eml file is one email exactly as it travelled: a block of headers, then the body in MIME parts, with attachments written out as long runs of letters. Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and Thunderbird all save and send them, and a computer without a mail program shows only code.
What you see.
| Part of the email | Shown as |
|---|---|
| From, To, Cc, Date, Subject | Plain text, with encoded names such as =?UTF-8?B?...?= decoded |
| The message | The plain text version; if there is only HTML, it is turned into text |
| Links in an HTML email | Listed under the message, as text you can copy |
| Attachments | One row each with name, type and size, and a Save button |
| A forwarded email attached | Opened too, under the main one |
Safe by design. The HTML of an email is never displayed as a web page. Scripts cannot run, remote images cannot load, and tracking pixels cannot tell the sender you opened it, because the HTML is reduced to text before anything is shown.
Encodings handled. Base64 and quoted-printable bodies, every character set your browser knows (UTF-8, ISO-8859-1, Windows-1252, Shift JIS and more), long attachment names split over several lines with RFC 2231, and nested multipart messages as Gmail and Outlook build them. Pictures placed inside the message, rather than attached, are marked Inline.
Outlook .msg files are a different, binary format. Outlook on the web and the new Outlook can save a message as .eml, which opens here.
Save the text. Download as text keeps the headers, message, attachment names and links in one .txt file.
Tested with hand-written messages and 300 generated ones whose subjects, file names and attachment bytes must come back exactly. Nothing is uploaded.
Drop the .eml file on EML Viewer. The sender, recipients, date, subject and message text appear straight away in your browser, with any attachments listed below. Nothing needs installing, and the same page works on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone.
Open the .eml here and each attachment is listed with its name, type and size. Press Save on a row to keep one file, or Download all attachments to get them in one zip. The files come out exactly as the sender attached them.
Safer than a mail program. The HTML of the email is turned into plain text, so no script runs, no remote image loads and no tracking pixel reports back. Attachments are only saved when you ask; open saved files with the usual care, since a harmful attachment stays harmful.
HTML emails are shown as text on purpose. Rendering the design would mean loading images and styles from the sender's servers, which tells them you opened it and can carry tracking. The words, line breaks, lists and links are all kept.
No. An .msg file is Outlook's own binary format, not a standard email file. In Outlook on the web or the new Outlook, open the message and save or download it, which gives an .eml file that opens here.
No. Every .eml is read by your own browser, and attachments are saved straight from your device. The messages, addresses and files never reach a server, which matters for private or business mail, and nothing remains once you close the tab.
Rates and rules change; check the source before you rely on a figure.
