Rename a folder of videos at once, 4K included, without re-encoding a frame
Processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Updated on 25 Oct 2026.Rename video files in bulk without touching a frame, so fifty 4K clips go as fast as fifty photos. In the built-in example DUA_C01_20260927131308.mp4 becomes DUA_C01.mp4, and 5 camera clips lose their time stamps with numbers kept in order and no name used twice. Chrome and Edge rename the folder in place; elsewhere you get a zip.
In Chrome or Edge press Choose the folder to rename, so large videos are renamed where they are.
Timestamps are removed and clip numbers put in order; set Order to Date or Name if you prefer.
Add a Prefix such as the project name and check the After column.
Press Rename files on my disk; no frame is re-encoded, so 4K clips take no longer than photos.
The Bulk File Renamer gives a folder of files clean names in one step. It was built for AI video clips - Google Flow names every download with the prompt, a clip number and a timestamp - and it works just as well on phone photos, WhatsApp media, screen recordings and anything else a device names for you.
Files made together are kept together. A batch is every file saved within a few minutes of the one before - ten minutes by default, adjustable - because an AI tool saves one batch across several seconds, not in one instant. Batches follow each other in time, and inside a batch the clip number decides the order, not the second each file happened to be written. So a story made over two days, C01 to C05 on the first and C01 to C07 on the second, comes out numbered C01 to C12.
Only names change. The files themselves are never opened for their content, re-encoded or uploaded, so a 4K or 8K video renames as quickly as a photo. In Chrome and Edge you can pick the folder and the files are renamed where they are; in other browsers the renamed files come back as one zip, stored without compression.
The rest of the article, and all 6 questions about Bulk File Renamer, are on the Bulk File Renamer page.
Drop the files on the page, or pick the folder in Chrome or Edge. Every new name is shown beside the old one: timestamps removed, clips numbered in order, and any prefix, suffix or find-and-replace you add. Press Rename and they change in place, or download them as a zip in other browsers.
No. Only the name changes; the video is never opened, decoded or re-encoded, so a 4K or 8K file keeps every frame exactly as it was. That is also why a folder of large videos renames in seconds.
No. The names are worked out in your browser. In Chrome and Edge the files are renamed on your own disk through the folder you pick; elsewhere the zip is built on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Every new name is shown before anything changes, and the page keeps a list of old and new names you can download. To undo a folder rename, drop the renamed files back in and use find and replace, or keep the downloaded list to rename them back.
