How to tally a cash drawer in rupees

1

The page opens on Count cash; press Clear to empty the example counts.

2

Count each stack and type the number in the How many box beside its note or coin.

3

Press Enter after each count to drop to the next row, so the whole drawer goes in from the keyboard.

4

Check Cash in hand and the amount in words, then press Print for a slip to keep with the cash.

How Cash Counter works

A shopkeeper closing the counter, a cashier handing over a shift and a treasurer filling a bank deposit slip all do the same sum: pieces of each note times its value, added up, checked against what the book says. This calculator does that sum as you type. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account; the counts stay in your browser.

Counting mode. There is a row for every note and coin in use: ₹500, ₹200, ₹100, ₹50, ₹20 and ₹10 notes, and ₹20, ₹10, ₹5, ₹2 and ₹1 coins. Press Enter to move to the next row, so a count can be typed without touching the mouse. Each row shows its total, and the result gives the grand total, the same amount in words on the lakh and crore scale ("Rupees Nine Thousand Five Hundred Eighty Seven Only"), and the number of notes and of coins. Copy the summary as text, or print it for the register.

What it does not do. It does not detect counterfeit notes, keep a daily ledger or check a cash book. Coins are legal tender only up to ₹1,000 in one payment (50 paise coins up to ₹10) under the Coinage Act, 2011, so a bank or shop may refuse more.

Frequently asked questions

How do I count cash by denomination?

Sort the notes and coins into piles by value, count the pieces in each pile, and multiply by the value: 12 notes of ₹500 make ₹6,000. Add every pile for the total. This calculator does the multiplying and adding as you type each count, and gives the total in figures, in words and as a note count.

Is the ₹2000 note still legal tender?

Yes. The Reserve Bank of India withdrew ₹2000 notes from circulation on 19 May 2023, but they continue to be legal tender. Ordinary bank branches stopped exchanging them in October 2023; the 19 RBI Issue Offices still exchange or deposit them, and notes can be sent there by India Post. Check rbi.org.in for the current position.

How do I split an amount into the fewest notes?

Take as many of the largest note as fit, then move down to the next one with what is left, and so on to the ₹1 coin. For Indian denominations this greedy rule always gives the fewest pieces. ₹7,865 becomes fifteen ₹500 notes, one each of ₹200, ₹100, ₹50 and ₹10, and a ₹5 coin: twenty pieces.

Paisa aur note ka total words me kaise likhe?

Count each note and coin row here and the total appears in words on the lakh and crore scale, ready for a deposit slip: ₹9,587 reads Rupees Nine Thousand Five Hundred Eighty Seven Only. For writing words me kaise likhe on a cheque in Hindi or another language, the Rupees to Words Converter spells any amount out.
