Turn a list of URLs into a valid sitemap.xml, with an index when it gets too big
Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. Updated on 24 Oct 2026.A sitemap lists the URLs you want crawled, and a single file may hold at most 50,000 of them. Paste your list and get valid XML back, with an index generated automatically once it grows past that limit. Everything is built in your browser.
Paste your page addresses into Your URLs, one per line.
Type the Site address so relative paths become full https:// addresses.
Set Last modified, and leave Change frequency and Priority out unless you need them.
Choose sitemap.xml, Sitemap index or Plain text under Output.
Press Copy or download the file, then upload it to the root of your site.
This sitemap generator takes a list of addresses and writes sitemap.xml exactly as the sitemaps.org protocol requires: the right namespace, children in the order loc, lastmod, changefreq and priority, ampersands escaped, and a sitemap index as soon as the list passes fifty thousand addresses or fifty megabytes.
It does not crawl your site, and it says so up front. The list has to come from somewhere else: a crawl export, your content management system, a database query or a page you wrote by hand. In return, nothing is uploaded and a list of unreleased URLs stays on your laptop.
Real lists are untidy, so the parser expects that. Bullets, quotes, trailing commas and header rows are stripped. Fragments are removed because they point inside a page. Duplicates are dropped. Query strings can be stripped in one click. Indented lists work, with children written as relative paths under the page above them, and a date, a change frequency or a priority can sit in extra columns after a tab or a comma. Every line that is dropped is listed with the reason.
You also get a plain text sitemap, which is one address per line and perfectly valid to submit. Related tools: Robots.txt Generator, for the Sitemap line that points at the file you just made.
No. It runs entirely in your browser and makes no network requests, so it cannot visit your site. Paste a list of addresses from a crawler export, your CMS or a database query. In exchange, a list of unpublished URLs never leaves your device.
Fifty thousand, and fifty megabytes uncompressed, whichever comes first. Past either limit you need several files and a sitemap index listing them. This tool counts real bytes and splits on both limits automatically.
Only lastmod does. Google has said for years that it ignores changefreq and priority, and uses lastmod when it is honest and consistent. Bing behaves much the same. Write a real last-modified date or leave all three out.
Anywhere on the same host, though the root is the convention: https://example.com/sitemap.xml. A sitemap can only list addresses at or below its own folder, so a file in the root is simplest. Then add a Sitemap line to robots.txt and submit it in Search Console.
Yes, for most sites. A plain text file of one address per line, UTF-8, up to fifty thousand lines, is a valid sitemap format. You lose lastmod, which is the one field search engines actually use, so XML is worth it for a site that changes often.
Every dropped line is listed with the reason: a duplicate, a relative path with no site address to attach it to, a scheme other than http or https, an address over 2,048 characters, or a line that is not an address at all.
