Audio to Opus Converter

files

Turn MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC into a small, high-quality .opus file on your own device

Processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Updated on 24 Oct 2026.

Opus is the codec behind voice notes and much web audio: at 160 kbps stereo it is very hard to tell from the original, at a fraction of the size of a WAV. Drop a file here and your browser encodes it with its own Opus encoder and saves an Ogg .opus file, so nothing leaves your device. A browser without an Opus encoder, such as Safari, says so instead of guessing.

How to convert audio to Opus

1

Press Choose an audio file and pick the MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or FLAC; nothing is uploaded.

2

The whole file is marked; drag the handles if you only want part of it.

3

Check that Format is Opus; the page states the bitrate and the expected size.

4

Press the button and Download the .opus file; Chrome, Edge and Firefox 130 or later can encode it.

How Audio to Opus Converter works

Mark the parts of a recording worth keeping, press the button, and each one arrives as its own file. The file is read by this page on your own device; no copy is sent anywhere, no account is asked for, and nothing is stamped on the sound.

Which format comes out

WAV is always available: the decoded samples written out untouched, exact but large, about 10 MB a minute in stereo. M4A is AAC in an MP4 container, encoded by the browser's own WebCodecs encoder at 256 kbps, and about a fifth of that size. Chrome, Edge and Safari 16.4 or later have that encoder; where a browser lacks it, the page says so before the button rather than failing after it. MP3 comes out only when an MP3 went in, because no browser can encode MP3 and the free encoders carry a copyleft licence this site will not ship. The original frames are copied instead, so the sound is untouched, but each cut lands on a 26-millisecond frame edge and cannot fade.

Ringtones

Ringtone mode keeps one clip, fades it in over a second and out over two, and saves it for a phone. For an iPhone it writes M4R, which is an M4A under the name iPhone ringtones use, and holds it to 30 seconds, Apple's published limit. Apple documents one way to set a custom ringtone: import the file into GarageBand on the iPhone, then Share, Ringtone and "Use sound as". Dragging an M4R onto the phone in Finder or iTunes also works for many people, but Apple does not describe it. Android plays MP3, M4A and WAV ringtones with no length limit.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the cut saved as a WAV and not an MP3?

Browsers can decode an MP3 but none can encode one, and the free MP3 encoders carry a copyleft licence this site will not ship. So WAV is the default, written straight from the decoded samples. From an MP3 source, MP3 is offered by copying its original frames, and M4A is offered wherever the browser has an AAC encoder.

How much bigger will the WAV be than my original file?

Roughly ten times, for a typical MP3. A minute of 44,100 Hz stereo at 16-bit is 10.1 MB, while a minute of 128 kbps MP3 is about 0.94 MB. The page works the figure out for your own file and shows it above the button. Mono halves it, and M4A at 256 kbps is about 1.9 MB a minute.

Does cutting the audio lose any quality?

Nothing is compressed again, so no. The browser decodes the file once, the samples inside your clip are copied into the WAV exactly as they were decoded, and the file is saved. Quality already lost when the original was compressed cannot be recovered, but this step adds no further loss of its own.

Audio kaise cut kare bina kisi app ke?

Audio kaise cut kare: add the file to this page, drag the two handles to the part you want, and press the cut button. No app, no account and no upload is involved, because the browser does the work on your own phone or laptop. The clip is saved as a WAV file.
