See what a photo reveals, then remove EXIF, GPS and camera details without losing quality

Processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Updated on 25 Oct 2026.

A photograph carries more than the picture: the camera, the settings, and often the exact position where it was taken. See what yours reveals, then strip it out with no loss of quality. Up to 20 files of 50 MB each, cleaned in your browser.

Next:
  • Compress the image Shrink JPG, PNG and WebP with a live before and after preview
  • Resize the image Resize by pixels or percent, with presets for passport photos and social media

How to remove metadata from a photo

1

Drop photos on the page or press Select photos; each one is read on your device and nothing is uploaded.

2

Click a photo row to see what it reveals: camera, date, software and any GPS location, flagged with a warning.

3

Leave Keep rotation and Keep colour profile on, or turn them off to remove every block that is not the picture.

4

Press Remove metadata, then Download; several cleaned photos come as one zip.

About Metadata Remover

Metadata Remover shows what hidden information a photo carries and then removes it. Before anything is changed you see the list: the camera or phone model, the date and time the photo was taken, the software used, the camera's serial number when it is recorded, and the GPS location as coordinates. If a photo has a location, you get a clear warning, because anyone you send the file to can read it.

People use it before selling something online, when sharing photos of their home, children or workplace, before posting pictures to forums, and when sending documents photographed on a phone. It is also a quick way to check whether a picture someone sent you reveals where it was taken.

For JPG and PNG files the tool removes the metadata without re-saving the picture. It cuts out the EXIF, XMP and IPTC blocks and comments of a JPG, and the text, EXIF and time chunks of a PNG, and copies the image data byte for byte, so quality is exactly the same as the original. By default it keeps two small things: the rotation flag, so portrait photos stay upright, and the colour profile, so colours do not shift. Both can be removed too. Other formats, such as WebP and iPhone HEIC, are re-saved by the browser, which removes all metadata but is not lossless, and the tool says so.

Word, Excel and PowerPoint files (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx and their macro versions) work too. Their hidden details are different: the author and whoever last saved the file, the company and manager, the revision count and editing time, the template path (which often contains a Windows user name), custom properties, and the name and account on every comment and tracked change. The tool lists all of it, removes it, and puts "Author" where a comment or tracked change named someone, so comments stay in place. Only the few parts that held those details are rewritten; every other part of the file is copied byte for byte. The words of the document itself are not changed, so a name typed into the text stays.

Nothing is uploaded; the files are read and cleaned in your browser. Add up to 20 files at a time and download them together as a zip.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove the location from a photo?

Add the photo. If it has a location, the tool shows the coordinates with a warning. Press Remove metadata and download the clean copy. JPG and PNG files are cleaned without re-saving, so the picture looks exactly the same, only the hidden data is gone.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Your photos are read and cleaned in your browser on your own device. They never reach a server, which is the point of a privacy tool: the information you want to remove is never seen by anyone else.

Does removing EXIF data reduce photo quality?

Not for JPG and PNG. The tool cuts the metadata blocks out of the file and copies the picture data unchanged. WebP, HEIC and other formats are re-saved by the browser to remove metadata, which is not lossless; the tool tells you when that happens.

Do WhatsApp and social media remove location data?

Many social networks strip location when you post, but files sent as documents, email attachments, cloud links and some marketplace uploads keep everything. Removing it yourself before sharing means you do not have to rely on each app.

Why is my photo still turned the right way after cleaning?

By default the tool keeps only the rotation flag so portrait photos do not appear sideways. It says nothing about you or where the photo was taken. Switch off Keep rotation to remove it too; the photo may then display sideways in some apps.

How do I remove the author name from a Word document?

Drop the .docx file. The table shows the author, last modified by, company, manager and every comment author. Press Remove metadata and download: those details are removed, comment authors become "Author", and the rest of the file is copied unchanged. Excel and PowerPoint files work the same way.

Photo se location kaise hataye?

Photo se location hatao: add the picture, read the coordinates the tool shows, and press Remove metadata. JPG and PNG files are cleaned without re-saving, so the image data is copied byte for byte. Up to 20 photos at a time, each 50 MB. The rotation flag is kept by default so portraits stay upright.
