Find and save the files attached inside a PDF, such as e-invoice XML or spreadsheets
Processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Checked against sources on 16 Oct 2026.PDF Attachments Extractor lists the files embedded in a PDF in your browser, both document attachments and paperclip notes on pages, and saves them one by one or in a ZIP. E-invoice XML from Factur-X and ZUGFeRD is marked. PDFs up to 200 MB work, and nothing is uploaded.
Press Select PDF or drop the file on the page; a locked PDF asks for its password.
The attached files are listed at once with their name, kind, size and where they were attached.
Press the download button on a row to save one file.
Press Download all to save every attachment in one ZIP.
A PDF can carry other files inside it. Hybrid e-invoices carry their machine-readable XML, reports carry the spreadsheet behind a chart, engineering documents carry drawings, and PDF portfolios are mostly attachments. Phone viewers and many browsers never show them.
Two kinds of attachment.
| Where | How readers show it | Listed as |
|---|---|---|
| Embedded files of the document | an Attachments panel | attached to the document |
| File attachment annotations | a paperclip on a page | pinned to page N |
A file that appears in both places is listed once. Names are cleaned so they save safely: folder paths are dropped, characters Windows refuses become dashes, and repeated names get (2), (3).
What each file is. The kind shown, such as PDF, XML, XLSX, JPEG or ZIP, is worked out from the first bytes of the file rather than its name. A name can say invoice.pdf while the content is a program, so check the kind before opening anything you did not expect.
E-invoices. Factur-X, ZUGFeRD and XRechnung invoices embed their data as factur-x.xml, zugferd-invoice.xml or xrechnung.xml. These are marked as e-invoice data, ready to save for an accounting system or a validator.
Tested on PDFs written object by object to the PDF specification and read with pdf.js, checking that every extracted file is byte for byte the one put in. The PDF is never uploaded or changed.
Drop the PDF on PDF Attachments Extractor. Every embedded file is listed at once with its name, kind and size; press the download button on a row to save that file, or Download all to save them together in a ZIP. Both document attachments and paperclip notes on pages are found.
In two places. Document attachments sit in a list of embedded files that readers show in an Attachments panel; file attachment notes are paperclip icons placed on a page. The page reads both, says which page a pinned file was on, and keeps a file found in both places only once.
Drop the invoice PDF here. The XML, usually named factur-x.xml, zugferd-invoice.xml or xrechnung.xml, is listed and marked as e-invoice data. Save it with its download button and open it in a text editor or validator. The PDF itself is not changed.
Most PDFs carry no attachments. Pictures and tables printed on the pages are part of the pages, not attached files. To save the pictures, use PDF to Image; to copy the text or tables, use PDF to Text or PDF to Excel.
Attachments can be any kind of file, including programs and macro documents, so open them only if you trust the PDF. The list shows each file's real kind, worked out from its first bytes rather than its name, so a program disguised as a document is easier to spot.
No. The PDF is opened by pdf.js in your own browser, and the attached files are saved from memory on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, which matters for invoices and contracts. A password-protected PDF asks for its password first.
Rates and rules change; check the source before you rely on a figure.
