Open and read a PDF in your browser: zoom, jump to a page, search the text, dark pages
Processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Updated on 24 Oct 2026.PDF Reader opens a PDF in your browser and shows its pages to scroll, zoom and search. Jump to any page, fit the width or the page, search the text of every page, and switch to dark pages at night. Files up to 200 MB and 5,000 pages open, and nothing is uploaded.
Press Open PDF or drop the file on the page; it opens on your device and is never uploaded.
Scroll through the pages, or type a page number and press Enter to jump to it.
Use minus and plus to zoom, or Fit width and Fit page; Dark pages makes reading at night easier.
Type in Search the text to list every page with a match, and tap a result to go to that page.
Most browsers can show a PDF, but not always the way you need: a file that downloads instead of opening, a shared computer where you cannot install a reader, a phone where the built-in viewer has no search. PDF Reader is a plain viewer that works the same in every modern browser.
Reading. Pages are drawn by pdf.js at your screen's sharpness, and only the pages near what you are looking at are kept in memory, so a long book scrolls smoothly even on a phone. The page number field shows where you are; type another number and press Enter to jump.
Zoom. Minus and plus step from 25% to 400%. Fit width fills the window with the widest page, and Fit page shows a whole page at once. The spot you were reading stays in place when you zoom.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Page field | shows the current page; type a number and press Enter to go there |
| Minus, plus | zoom out and in, 25% to 400% |
| Fit width, Fit page | size the pages to the window |
| Dark pages | light text on dark pages, for night reading |
| Search the text | lists every page with a match, with an extract |
Search. The text of every page is read once, on the first search. Accents are ignored, a phrase broken across two lines is still found, and each result shows a short extract with the match marked. A scanned file has no text to search, and the reader says so.
Private. The file is opened from your device's memory and never uploaded. Password-protected files ask for their password, which stays on the page.
Drop the file on PDF Reader or press Open PDF. The pages appear in the browser at once, drawn by pdf.js, the same engine Firefox uses. Nothing is installed and the file is not uploaded, so it works on a shared or work computer where installing software is not allowed.
Type the word in Search the text. Every page that holds it is listed with a short extract and the number of matches, and tapping a result scrolls to that page. Accents are ignored, a phrase broken over two lines is still found, and Match case narrows the search when needed.
A scanned document is a set of pictures of pages, with no text inside the file to search. The reader says so when no page has any text. Image to Text can read the words from a scan with OCR, and the result can then be searched or copied.
Yes. Dark pages shows every page light-on-dark, which is easier on the eyes at night, and photos keep roughly their colours. Only the screen changes: the file itself stays exactly as it was. The choice is remembered on this device for the next file.
Yes, when you know the password. The reader asks for it and opens the file with it in your browser. The password is used only on this page and never sent anywhere. To remove the password for good, use Unlock PDF.
No. The file is read from your device's memory by pdf.js inside the browser tab, and only the pages near the screen are drawn. Nothing is sent to a server, so confidential documents stay private. Closing the tab clears the file.
