Random Name Picker

files

Pick one or more winners from a list of names fairly, or split the list into random teams

Processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Updated on 24 Oct 2026.

A random name picker draws names from a list with equal chances, so each of 10 names has a 1 in 10 chance of winning. Several winners are drawn without repeats, and the draw uses the browser's cryptographic random numbers rather than a predictable formula.

How to pick a random name from a list

1

Paste or type the names in the box, one per line, or separated by commas.

2

Choose how many winners to draw, and whether to remove duplicates and take winners out of the list.

3

Press Pick to draw the winners; press it again for the next draw.

4

Or switch to Teams, choose the number of teams and press Make teams to split everyone at random.

About the Random Name Picker

Teachers choosing who answers next, friends sharing out chores and creators picking giveaway winners all need the same thing: a draw that nobody can say was rigged. Paste the names, choose how many winners you need, and press Pick.

How the draw is fair. Each pick uses the browser's cryptographic random number generator, the same source used for passwords, not the predictable formula behind most simple pickers. The numbers are turned into a choice without the small bias that a plain remainder introduces, and several winners are drawn in one go by shuffling, so nobody can be drawn twice in the same draw and every possible set of winners is equally likely. The test suite checks the spread statistically over tens of thousands of draws.

Options. Remove duplicates treats "Asha" and "asha" as one entry and lists what it removed, which matters when a giveaway list has the same person twice. Take winners out removes each winner from the list after the draw, for picking a first, second and third prize in turn. Teams deals everyone into the number of teams you choose, with sizes that differ by at most one.

Pasting a list. Put one name per line. A single line separated by commas or semicolons also works, while a line such as "Shah, Asha" stays one name when the list has line breaks. Names in any language or script are fine.

What it does not do. It does not import entrants from Instagram, YouTube or other comment sections; copy the names into the box instead. It does not keep a record or a certificate of the draw, so take a screenshot if you need to show the result. The names stay on this page in your browser and are never sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How do I pick a random winner from a list of names?

Paste the names into the box, one per line, choose one winner and press Pick. Every name has the same chance, so with 25 entrants each has a 1 in 25 chance. Press Pick again for another draw, or turn on Take winners out for a second prize.

Is the random name picker really fair?

Each draw uses the browser's cryptographic random numbers and a method without the small bias simple pickers have. Several winners come from a shuffle, so nobody is drawn twice and every set of winners is equally likely. The tests check the spread over tens of thousands of draws.

How do I pick several winners without repeats?

Set the number of winners before pressing Pick. All of them are drawn together from the list, so the same name cannot appear twice in one draw. If a person entered twice, turn on Remove duplicates first so they have only one chance.

Can I split a list of names into random teams?

Yes. Switch to Teams, choose how many teams you want and press Make teams. Everyone is shuffled and dealt into the teams in turn, so team sizes differ by at most one person, which works for classes, sports and quiz nights.

Can it pick a winner from Instagram or YouTube comments?

Not directly. The picker does not connect to social media accounts. Copy the commenters' names into the box, turn on Remove duplicates so nobody gets two chances, then press Pick and take a screenshot of the result to share.

Are the names I enter saved or sent anywhere?

No. The list stays in this page in your browser and is not sent or stored on a server. The draw happens on your device, and closing or reloading the page clears the result.
