Delete repeated lines from a list and keep the original order
Processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Updated on 24 Oct 2026.Removing repeated lines from a list is a job nobody should do by hand. The original order is kept, so the first appearance of each line stays exactly where it was. Paste 1 list or a hundred thousand lines; nothing you paste is uploaded anywhere.
Paste your list into Your list, one item per line.
Turn Trim whitespace, Ignore case and Remove empty lines on or off, and pick a Sort order.
Read the result in Unique lines and the Most repeated list below it.
Press Copy, or Download .txt; your list is never uploaded.
Remove Duplicate Lines deletes every repeated line from your text and keeps the first occurrence of each, in the order it first appeared. The result updates as you paste, with a count of how many duplicates and empty lines were removed and a list of which lines repeated most.
It is useful whenever a list has been assembled from more than one source. Merging two mailing lists leaves the same address twice; exporting a spreadsheet column gives you every customer city hundreds of times; and a log file repeats the same error line. Paste the text, copy the clean list, and you have each item once.
Four options cover the cases that trip up simple tools. Trim whitespace treats "apple" and " apple " as the same line. Ignore case treats "Apple" and "apple" as the same and keeps the spelling that came first. Remove empty lines drops blank lines; switch it off and blank lines stay where they are, so paragraphs survive. Sorting comes last and offers A to Z, Z to A, shortest first and longest first, with natural order so "item 2" comes before "item 10".
Everything runs in your browser, so customer lists and email addresses are never uploaded. Lists of hundreds of thousands of lines clean in a moment. Press Ctrl+Enter to copy the result, or download it as a text file. The Word Counter and Case Converter are handy next steps.
Paste the text with one item per line. Repeated lines are removed as you paste, the first occurrence of each stays in its original position, and a line above the result says how many were removed. Copy the clean list with one click or Ctrl+Enter, or download it as a .txt file.
Yes. By default the list keeps the order in which each line first appeared, and only the later repeats are dropped. If you want the result sorted, choose A to Z, Z to A, shortest first or longest first; sorting happens after the duplicates are removed.
Yes. Trim whitespace is on by default, so a line with a trailing space matches the same line without one. Switch on Ignore case to treat "Apple" and "apple" as duplicates; the first spelling is the one kept. This matters for email addresses, which are usually typed with random capitals.
With Remove empty lines on, blank lines and lines containing only spaces are removed and counted separately. Switch it off and blank lines stay exactly where they are and are never treated as duplicates, which keeps the gaps between paragraphs or groups intact.
No. The duplicates are removed by your own browser, so email lists, phone numbers and customer names never leave your device. The text you paste is remembered on this device so a reload does not lose it; Clear removes it.
Up to five million characters, which is hundreds of thousands of lines. A list of that size cleans in under a second on a laptop and a little longer on a phone. For bigger files, split them into parts and clean each one.
