The NSC calculator works out what a National Savings Certificate (VIII Issue) pays at maturity. Enter the amount you bought, from ₹1,000 upwards in steps of ₹100, and the rate. You get the maturity value, the interest earned and a table of all five years, with the interest the scheme treats as reinvested marked in years one to four. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
The method follows the scheme itself. The Ministry of Finance publishes, for each rate, a table of the interest that accrues each year on a ₹1,000 certificate, in rupees and paise, and a maturity value for ₹1,000. Any other amount is proportionate, and the maturity value is rounded to the nearest rupee. For a rate r, year y's interest on ₹1,000 is 1,000 × r × (1 + r)^(y − 1) and the maturity value is 1,000 × (1 + r)^5. At 7.7% that gives ₹77.00, ₹82.93, ₹89.31, ₹96.19 and ₹103.60, and ₹1,449.03 at maturity. The calculator reproduces the 6.8% table printed in the scheme to the paisa.
What this does not do: it does not work out income tax. The scheme says interest for years one to four is deemed reinvested; whether you can claim it as a deduction depends on your tax regime and the Income-tax Act, which you should confirm with your own adviser. It also does not value a certificate closed early, which is only allowed on death, a court order or a forfeited pledge.

The rate notified for October to December 2026 is 7.7% a year, compounded annually, and it has not changed since 1 April 2023. The Ministry of Finance sets it again every quarter, around the last day of the quarter before. A certificate keeps the rate of the day it is bought for its full five years.
At 7.7%, ₹1,00,000 in a National Savings Certificate matures to ₹1,44,903 after five years, which is ₹44,903 of interest. The interest is added once a year and paid in one amount with the deposit at maturity; nothing is paid out in between.
Each year's interest is the rate applied to the balance at the start of that year, including the interest already added. On ₹1,000 at 7.7% that is ₹77.00, ₹82.93, ₹89.31, ₹96.19 and ₹103.60. Any other amount is proportionate, and the final maturity value is rounded to the nearest rupee.
Only on the death of a holder, on forfeiture by a pledgee who is a gazetted officer, or on a court order. Closed within a year, only the deposit is paid back; between one and three years, savings-account interest is added; after three years, the Ministry's premature closure table applies.
