Any taka amount for a cheque in Bengali words with lakh and crore, and in English

Checked against sources on 9 Oct 2026.Bangladeshi cheques write 1,25,000 taka in words as "এক লক্ষ পঁচিশ হাজার টাকা মাত্র" in Bengali and "Taka One Lakh Twenty Five Thousand Only" in English. Amounts are counted in lakh (1,00,000) and crore (1,00,00,000), and poisha, the hundredth of a taka, follow the taka.
Type the figure in "Amount in taka", or tap one of the example amounts.
Pick Formal (শত, লক্ষ) for a cheque, or Everyday (শো, লাখ).
Keep the টাকা and মাত্র chips on for a cheque line, or turn them off for the number alone.
Check the figure in Bengali digits, then copy the Bengali or the English line.
This converter writes any taka amount out in words for a cheque, a money receipt, a deed or an invoice: in Bengali, and in English on the same lakh and crore scale. The figure appears under the words in Bengali digits (৳১,২৫,০০০) or in 0-9, so the two rows of a cheque can be checked against each other before you sign.
Bengali words. Bengali has its own word for every number from one to ninety-nine, and several are easy to misspell: ৪৯ উনপঞ্চাশ, ৭৯ উনআশি, ৯৯ নিরানব্বই. Above ninety-nine the words are built from parts: শত for hundred, হাজার, লক্ষ and কোটি. The Formal style uses শত and লক্ষ, the words printed on Bangladeshi banknotes ("একশত টাকা") and expected on a cheque; Everyday uses শো and লাখ. Above a hundred crore the count of crores is spelled out, so 1,000 crore is এক হাজার কোটি.
How it is checked. Every number from 0 to 2,00,000 and a spread up to 99 crore is compared word for word with the Unicode CLDR spelling rules for Bengali. There is one deliberate difference: CLDR writes 20 as কুড়ি, the West Bengal everyday word, while Bangladesh writes বিশ, as the twenty-taka note does.
English words. The English line starts with Taka and ends with Only, as Bangladeshi cheques are written, and counts in lakh and crore: Taka One Lakh Twenty Five Thousand and Fifty Poisha Only. Switch off the টাকা and মাত্র chips for the bare number.
What it does not do. It does not write ordinals, the million and billion naming, or other currencies, and it does not choose for you between বায়ান্ন and other regional spellings of a few numbers; it follows CLDR.

In Bengali, "এক লক্ষ পঁচিশ হাজার টাকা মাত্র"; in English, "Taka One Lakh Twenty Five Thousand Only". The word মাত্র, or Only, closes the line so nothing can be added after the amount. Type 125000 into the converter to get both lines to copy.
Both are correct Bengali. লক্ষ and শত are the formal words, printed on Bangladeshi banknotes and usual on cheques and deeds; লাখ and শো are the everyday words. The converter starts in the formal style and switches with one tap.
After the taka: "পাঁচ হাজার টাকা পঞ্চাশ পয়সা মাত্র", and in English "Taka Five Thousand and Fifty Poisha Only". A hundred poisha make one taka. Type the amount with its decimals, such as 5000.50, and the poisha are added to both lines.
One crore, 1,00,00,000, is এক কোটি, and 1,23,45,678 is এক কোটি তেইশ লক্ষ পঁয়তাল্লিশ হাজার ছয়শত আটাত্তর. Larger amounts keep counting in crore, so 1,000 crore is এক হাজার কোটি, the way Bangladeshi budgets write it.
In Bangladesh it is বিশ, as on the twenty-taka note. কুড়ি is the everyday West Bengal word and the one the Unicode CLDR rules use. The converter writes বিশ and follows CLDR for every other number, which a test checks.
Yes. The figure under the words is shown in Bengali digits, ৳১,২৫,০০০, with lakh grouping; turn off Bengali digits to show ৳1,25,000 instead. The words do not change, only the way the number is printed.
Rates and rules change; check the source before you rely on a figure.
