Estimates only, not financial advice. What you type stays on your device. Checked against sources on 10 Oct 2026.Bangladesh VAT is 15% of the price under section 15 of the VAT and SD Act 2012, so 1,000 taka plus VAT is 1,150 taka. To take VAT out of a price, multiply by 15 and divide by 115: a 1,000 taka price holds 130.43 taka of VAT. Reduced rates of 10%, 7.5% and 5% apply to Third Schedule items.

This calculator adds value added tax (মূল্য সংযোজন কর, মূসক) to a price or takes it out of one, line by line, at the rates of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act 2012 as in force for FY 2026-27. Each line has its own rate and, where the item carries one, its own supplementary duty.
The rates. The standard rate is 15% (section 15). The Third Schedule sets reduced rates: 10% for construction firms, cinema distributors and procurement providers; 7.5% for goods sold at the trader stage, LPG and furniture; 5% for internet service, IT-enabled services, English medium schools, ride sharing and electricity distribution. At the trader stage medicines pay 3% and petroleum products 2%; a building firm pays 2% on flats up to 1,600 sq ft and 4.5% above that.
Adding and removing VAT. Adding VAT multiplies the price by the rate. Removing it uses the tax fraction, rate ÷ (100 + rate), the same formula as the NBR's own VAT calculator: at 15% that is 15/115 of the price.
Supplementary duty. Supplementary duty is charged first, and VAT is then charged on the price plus the duty (sections 55 and 57). A 10,000 taka item with 20% duty and 15% VAT costs 13,800 taka.
What it leaves out. The fixed amounts in Table-4 (since the Finance Act 2026, 2,500 taka per bhori of gold jewellery), turnover tax, and VAT deducted at source. Which rate applies to a supply depends on its schedule entry; the page lists the main cases, not every HS code.

The standard VAT rate in Bangladesh is 15% under section 15 of the VAT and SD Act 2012, unchanged for FY 2026-27. The Third Schedule sets reduced rates of 10%, 7.5% and 5% for listed goods and services, and lower trader-stage rates of 3% for medicines and 2% for petroleum products.
Multiply the VAT-inclusive total by the rate and divide by 100 plus the rate. At 15%, a total of 1,150 taka holds 1,150 × 15 ÷ 115 = 150 taka of VAT, leaving 1,000 taka. The NBR's own online VAT calculator uses the same formula.
A local trader pays VAT at 7.5% on goods under paragraph 3 of the Third Schedule, as amended from 9 January 2026. Medicines at the trader stage pay 3%, and diesel, kerosene, octane, petrol and furnace oil pay 2%. A registered person may choose the 15% standard rate instead.
Yes. Supplementary duty is charged on the SD-able value, and the VAT value is that value plus the duty, so VAT applies to price plus supplementary duty. On 10,000 taka with 20% duty, the duty is 2,000 taka and 15% VAT is 1,800 taka: 13,800 taka in all.
Table-1 of the Third Schedule lists 5% VAT for internet service providers, IT-enabled services, English medium schools, ride sharing and electricity distribution, among others. Construction firms, cinema distributors and procurement providers pay 10%, and furniture makers and showrooms pay 7.5%.
Gold jewellery now pays a fixed amount instead of a percentage: 2,500 taka per bhori for gold, platinum and diamond pieces (diamond per gram) and 100 taka per bhori for silver, under Table-4 of the Third Schedule as replaced by the Finance Act 2026. The calculator does not apply these fixed amounts.
