Vectorize a PNG or JPG into an SVG, with the colours, detail and smoothing you choose
Processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Checked against sources on 22 Oct 2026.Image to SVG traces a PNG or JPG into a true vector SVG in your browser, with 2 to 64 colours, three levels of detail and smoothing for noisy scans. A live preview sits beside the original, and the download is traced again at full size, up to 2000 pixels on the longest side. Nothing is uploaded.
Press Select an image, or drop a PNG or JPG; it is traced on your device.
Compare the original with the live SVG preview side by side.
Choose the number of colours, the detail and the smoothing until the shapes look right.
Press Download to save the SVG, traced again at full size.
A PNG or JPG is a grid of pixels; an SVG is a set of shapes. Tracing finds the areas of each colour and draws their outlines as curves, so the result stays sharp at any size and can be recoloured or cut by a plotter.
The three settings.
| Setting | What it changes | Start with |
|---|---|---|
| Colours | How many flat colours the picture is reduced to | 2 for a black mark, 4 to 8 for a logo |
| Detail | How closely outlines follow the pixels, and the smallest shape kept | Medium; Low for simple, clean shapes |
| Smoothing | A blur before tracing that melts JPEG noise and jagged edges | 1; 2 to 3 for a scan or a photo of a drawing |
The preview is traced at up to 480 pixels so it follows every change within a moment. The download is traced again from the full picture with the same settings, up to 2000 pixels on the longest side, more than enough for a shape that scales without limit.
What traces well. Logos, icons, signatures, stamps, line drawings, clip art and screenshots of flat graphics. A photograph has thousands of shades; traced, it becomes a poster-like picture of flat colour and a heavy file, and the page warns when an SVG is over 2 MB or 5,000 shapes.
Clean output. The SVG has its width, height and viewBox set, invisible shapes removed and colours written as hex codes, ready for Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma, Cricut Design Space or a website. Remove the plain background to keep only the drawing, then shrink the file further with the SVG Optimizer.
The same picture with the same settings always gives the same SVG. Tracing runs in your browser with the public-domain imagetracerjs library; the picture is never uploaded.
Drop the picture on the page and a traced SVG preview appears beside the original. Choose the number of colours, the detail and the smoothing until the shapes look right, then press Download. The full-size SVG is traced in your browser with the same settings and saved to your device.
A real vector. Every area of colour becomes a path with its own fill, so the file scales to any size without blur, colours can be changed one by one, and cutting machines can follow the outlines. Some converters only wrap the original pixels in an SVG file, which still blurs when enlarged.
Two colours give a black and white mark, ideal for stamps, signatures and vinyl cutting. Four to eight suit most logos. Sixteen or more keep shading but make many more shapes and a heavier file. The preview shows the colour and shape count, so you can compare before downloading.
Tracing reduces the picture to flat areas of colour, and a photograph has thousands of shades, so the SVG looks like a screen print. That is how vectorising works everywhere. For photos keep the PNG or JPG; tracing suits logos, icons, drawings and other flat artwork.
Yes. The SVG contains plain filled paths with a width, height and viewBox, which Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio, Inkscape and laser software import. Use 2 colours and Remove the plain background for a single cut layer, and Low detail for fewer, smoother cut lines.
No. The picture is decoded and traced by your own browser, in a background worker so the page stays responsive, and the SVG is made on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, and nothing remains once you close the tab.
Rates and rules change; check the source before you rely on a figure.
