See what a PDF says about you, then remove the author, software and dates
Processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Updated on 24 Oct 2026.A PDF quietly records who made it and how: the author name from the computer it came from, the program and version that wrote it, the date and time it was created and last changed, and often a second copy of all that in an XMP block. Drop a PDF here to read every entry, then download a copy with the document information and XMP removed. The pages, text and images stay exactly as they were.
Drop the PDF on the page, or press Select PDF; the details it carries are shown first.
Remove all metadata is already on.
Press Remove metadata and download the clean copy; the pages themselves are not changed.
PDF Metadata Editor reads the document properties of a PDF and lets you change them before you share the file. The title is what a browser tab and a search result show for the PDF; the author is often the name of whoever's computer made it, which is not always who should be named.
Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator (the program that wrote the original document), Producer (the software that made the PDF), Created and Modified. Clear a field to remove that entry entirely. Other entries, such as custom properties from a template, are listed by name so you know they are there.
It deletes the document information and every XMP block in the file, including those attached to pages and pictures. Text, images and pages are not touched. Details inside pictures themselves, such as a photo's camera data, need Metadata Remover before the photo goes into the PDF.
The rest of the article, and all 6 questions about PDF Metadata Editor, are on the PDF Metadata Editor page.
Open the PDF here, clear the Author field and save, or turn on Remove all metadata to delete every entry at once. The author name is removed from both places a PDF keeps it, and the old value is not left anywhere in the saved file. The pages themselves are not changed.
Creator is the program the document was written in, such as Microsoft Word. Producer is the software that turned it into a PDF, such as a PDF printer or library. Both are often added without the author noticing, and both can be edited or cleared here like any other field.
No. Removing metadata deletes the document information and XMP blocks only. Text, pictures, fonts, links and page layout stay exactly as they were. Details stored inside the pictures, such as camera data in a photo, are part of the picture and need Metadata Remover before the photo is added.
No. The PDF is read and saved in your browser on your own device, in a background worker, and never leaves it. One PDF at a time, up to 100 MB; a password-protected PDF asks for its password first and is saved without it.
