This calculator prices overtime and the night, Sunday and holiday surcharges for an employee in Colombia under the 2025 labour reform, Law 2466 of 2025, and the shorter week of Law 2101 of 2021, from the Ministry of ICT's official legal compilation.
Day and night. Since 25 December 2025, article 160 counts day work from 6:00 to 19:00 and night work from 19:00 to 6:00; before the reform night started at 21:00.
The week. Article 161 now sets at most 8 hours a day and 42 a week. Law 2101 brought the week down gradually: 47 hours from 15 July 2023, 46 from 2024, 44 from 2025 and 42 from 15 July 2026, without lowering the salary or the value of the ordinary hour.
The surcharges. Article 168 pays night work 35% over day work, overtime by day 25% and overtime at night 75%, each on its own. Article 179 pays work on the rest day or a holiday with a surcharge that rises in steps: 80% from 1 July 2025, 90% from 1 July 2026 and 100% from 1 July 2027.
What each hour adds. An overtime hour is paid in full plus its surcharge: 1.25 or 1.75 times the hourly value. Ordinary hours at night or on a Sunday are already in the monthly salary, so they add only the surcharge: 0.35, 0.90 or 1.25. Overtime on a Sunday adds both surcharges, as payroll does: 2.15 by day and 2.65 at night at the 90% rate.
The hourly value. The law gives no divisor; the calculator spreads the weekly hours over 6 days of a 30-day month, 210 hours for 42 a week, 240 for the old 48. Type your payroll's divisor if it uses another.
A worked example. 2,100,000 pesos and 42 hours give 10,000 an hour. Ten extra day hours add 125,000, eight night hours 28,000 and eight Sunday hours 72,000: 225,000 pesos in all.
Not included. The 36-hour shift scheme without surcharges, compensatory rest instead of pay, salario integral and the effect on contributions.

Article 168 of the labour code adds 25% to the ordinary hourly value for overtime by day and 75% for overtime at night, so an extra hour pays 1.25 or 1.75 times the hourly value. On a 2,100,000-peso salary and a 42-hour week that is 12,500 or 17,500 pesos.
At 19:00. Article 160, as amended by Law 2466 of 2025, counts day work from 6:00 to 19:00 and night work from 19:00 to 6:00 the next day. The change took effect six months after the law was signed on 25 June 2025, so from 25 December 2025.
Law 2466 raises the surcharge for work on the rest day or a holiday in steps: 80% from 1 July 2025, 90% from 1 July 2026 and 100% from 1 July 2027. An employer may apply 100% at once. Work on up to two rest days a month is occasional; three or more is habitual.
Divide the monthly salary by the month's hours. The law sets no divisor; spreading 42 hours over 6 days of a 30-day month gives 210 hours, so 2,100,000 pesos are 10,000 an hour. Law 2101 says the shorter week may not lower the salary nor the value of the ordinary hour.
Article 168 says its surcharges apply each on its own, so overtime at night is 75%, not 75% plus 35%. Payroll practice adds the Sunday or holiday surcharge of article 179 on top, so an extra night hour on a Sunday at the 90% rate pays 2.65 times the hourly value.
Law 2101 of 2021 cut the week from 48 hours in steps: 47 from 15 July 2023, 46 from 15 July 2024, 44 from 15 July 2025 and 42 from 15 July 2026. Article 161 now states the 42-hour maximum, still with at most 8 hours a day.
