This calculator estimates the gross WW benefit and how long it lasts, from UWV's pages on the amount and duration of WW, its maximum dagloon, and article 42 of the Werkloosheidswet.
The amount. UWV divides your sv-loon by the working days of the months you were paid to get the dagloon, and multiplies it by 21.75 to get the WW-maandloon. A year has 12 x 21.75 = 261 working days, so with a full year of pay the WW-maandloon equals your average monthly wage including holiday pay. You get 75% of it for the first 2 months and 70% after. The dagloon is capped at €309.91.
The duration.
| Situation | WW lasts |
|---|---|
| Weeks condition only (26 of the last 36 weeks) | 3 months |
| Years condition too, 8 years of history | 8 months |
| 15 years, 10 of them from 2016 | 12½ months |
| 30 years, 10 of them from 2016 | 24 months (the maximum) |
The first ten years earn a month each; later years earn a month if they are before 2016 and half a month from 2016.
A worked example. €3,500 a month plus 8% holiday pay: dagloon €173.79, WW-maandloon €3,779.93, so €2,834.95 for 2 months and €2,645.95 after, for 12½ months.
Not included. Income while on WW, the guaranteed daily wage, part-time unemployment and wage tax. For take-home pay at work, see the Netherlands Net Salary Calculator; for severance, the Transitievergoeding Calculator.

UWV pays 75% of your WW-maandloon for the first 2 months and 70% after that. The WW-maandloon is your dagloon times 21.75, the average number of working days in a month. On a €3,500 monthly wage plus 8% holiday pay that is about €2,835 gross a month at first, then €2,646.
The dagloon is capped at the maximum dagloon of €309.91 gross, holiday pay included. That gives a WW-maandloon of €6,740.54, so the most you can get is €5,055.41 a month for the first 2 months and €4,718.38 after that, before wage tax.
Meeting the weeks condition gives 3 months. With the years condition as well you get one month for each year of work history up to ten years; after ten years, one month for each year up to 2015 and half a month for each year from 2016. The law sets 3 months as the minimum and 24 as the maximum.
The weeks condition: in the last 36 weeks before you became unemployed you worked in at least 26, however many hours. The years condition: in the last 5 years you worked in at least 4, each year counting when you were paid for 208 hours or more.
No. UWV states that the year in which your WW benefit begins does not count towards your work history. A person who loses their job in 2026 counts the calendar years up to and including 2025, plus every year from their 18th birthday up to 1998.
The percentages apply to gross wages, and UWV then withholds wage tax and premiums. UWV says it cannot estimate the net benefit because the withholding differs per situation. Any income you earn while on WW is also deducted from the benefit.
