The Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) is the lowest price a sugar mill may pay for cane. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs fixes it every sugar season, which runs from October to September. This calculator takes the tonnes you delivered and your mill's recovery, works out the FRP per quintal and per tonne, and subtracts the harvesting and transport charge to show what reaches you.
The 2026-27 figures. The Cabinet approved them on 5 May 2026: ₹365 per quintal at a basic recovery of 10.25%, a premium of ₹3.56 per quintal for each 0.1% of recovery above 10.25%, and a reduction of ₹3.56 for each 0.1% below. Mills with recovery of 9.5% or less make no further deduction and pay ₹338.30 per quintal. The 2025-26 season, which ends on 30 September 2026, used ₹355, ₹3.46 and ₹329.05, and can be chosen for cane still being paid for.
Recovery is the mill's, not yours. Recovery is the percentage of sugar the mill gets from the cane it crushes over the season, and the same rate applies to every farmer supplying that mill. The mill announces it; use that figure. The premium is applied in proportion here, so 11.04% counts as 7.9 steps. A mill that pays only for full 0.1% steps pays at most ₹3.56 per quintal less.
Deductions and state prices. Many mills cut harvesting and transport (H&T) per tonne from the FRP; enter the charge on your cane slip. Some states, such as Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana, fix a State Advised Price above FRP. Choose "State price" and enter it per quintal.
What the calculator does not do. It does not add interest on late payment, deduct loans or society dues, or include any state bonus. One tonne is 10 quintals.
The Cabinet fixed the FRP for sugar season 2026-27 at ₹365 per quintal for a basic recovery of 10.25%, on 5 May 2026. The season runs from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027. For 2025-26 the FRP was ₹355 per quintal, so the increase is ₹10, or 2.8%.
Each 0.1% of recovery above 10.25% adds ₹3.56 per quintal in 2026-27. At 11% recovery that is 7.5 steps, or ₹26.70, so the FRP is ₹391.70 per quintal and ₹3,917 per tonne. At 12% it is 17.5 steps and ₹427.30 per quintal.
Between 9.5% and 10.25% the FRP falls by ₹3.56 per quintal for each 0.1%. At 9.5% or below there is no further cut: the farmer gets ₹338.30 per quintal in 2026-27, and ₹329.05 in 2025-26. The government set this floor to protect farmers at low-recovery mills.
In many states, mainly in the south and west, the mill arranges cutting and transport and deducts the charge per tonne from the FRP. The charge differs by mill and by distance, so enter the figure from your cane slip. At ₹800 per tonne and 11% recovery the net is ₹3,117 per tonne.
FRP is the national minimum set by the Centre. A State Advised Price (SAP) is a higher price some states, such as Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana, set for mills in their state, usually per quintal without a recovery link. Where a state price applies, choose State price and enter it.
One tonne is 10 quintals, and one quintal is 100 kg. FRP is announced per quintal, so ₹365 per quintal equals ₹3,650 per tonne at the basic 10.25% recovery. Mills usually weigh and pay by the tonne, which is why the calculator shows both.
