Kg and bags of Urea, DAP and MOP for your N-P-K dose, per hectare or per acre

Estimates only, not financial advice. What you type stays on your device. Checked against sources on 30 Oct 2026.

For a dose of 120 kg N, 60 kg P2O5 and 40 kg K2O per hectare, one hectare needs 130.4 kg DAP, 209.8 kg urea and 66.7 kg MOP. DAP is 18% N and 46% P2O5, urea 46% N and MOP 60% K2O, so the urea is cut by the 23.5 kg N the DAP already gives.

How to calculate urea, DAP and MOP from an NPK dose

1

Choose whether the "Dose is given in" kg per hectare or kg per acre.

2

Enter the Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P2O5) and Potash (K2O) dose from your Soil Health Card.

3

Enter Your field size and pick Hectare or Acre under "Field measured in".

4

Choose DAP or SSP under "Phosphorus from", the Urea bag size and the prices printed on the bags.

5

Read the kg, bags and cost for each product; the nutrient contents follow the Fertiliser (Control) Order under Sources.

About the Fertilizer NPK Calculator

A fertilizer recommendation is written in nutrients: kilograms of nitrogen (N), phosphorus as P2O5 and potash as K2O per hectare or per acre. The shop sells products in bags. This calculator turns the first into the second: how many kilograms of each product, how many bags to buy, and what they cost at the prices you enter.

The nutrient content is fixed by law. The Fertiliser (Control) Order 1985 sets the minimum each product must contain: urea 46% nitrogen, DAP 18% nitrogen and 46% P2O5, muriate of potash (MOP) 60% K2O, and single superphosphate (SSP) 16% P2O5 with 11% sulphur. Every recommendation in India uses these figures.

DAP brings nitrogen too. With DAP, all the phosphorus comes from DAP first. That DAP also carries 18% nitrogen, so the calculator subtracts it and urea supplies only the rest. Skip this step and the field gets extra nitrogen and the farmer pays for urea not needed. With SSP there is no nitrogen in the phosphorus product, so urea supplies all of it, and the SSP adds sulphur, which oilseeds and pulses use.

Bags are rounded up. Urea comes in 45 kg bags; DAP, MOP and SSP in 50 kg bags. The table shows the exact kilograms and the whole bags to buy, and the cost is for whole bags.

What the calculator does not do. It does not decide the dose. Take that from your Soil Health Card, the state agriculture department or the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, because the right dose depends on the crop, the soil test and the season. It does not split the dose into basal and top dressing, and it does not cover complex fertilizers such as 10-26-26 or 12-32-16. The bag prices are examples: enter the price printed on the bag you buy.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate urea, DAP and MOP from an NPK dose?

Divide the P2O5 dose by 0.46 to get DAP. Multiply that DAP by 0.18 for the nitrogen it carries, subtract from the N dose and divide the rest by 0.46 for urea. Divide the K2O dose by 0.60 for MOP. For 120:60:40 kg per hectare that is 130.4 kg DAP, 209.8 kg urea and 66.7 kg MOP.

Why is less urea needed when DAP is used?

DAP is 18% nitrogen as well as 46% phosphorus. Every 50 kg bag of DAP puts 9 kg of nitrogen into the field, so that much nitrogen does not have to come from urea. Counting it avoids buying extra urea and putting more nitrogen on the crop than the recommendation asks for.

Should I use DAP or SSP for phosphorus?

Both supply phosphorus. DAP is concentrated, 46% P2O5, and brings nitrogen. SSP is 16% P2O5, so about three times the weight is needed, but it adds 11% sulphur and calcium, which suit oilseeds and pulses. Follow the recommendation for your crop and compare the total cost for both options here.

How many kg of urea are in one bag?

Urea is sold in 45 kg bags in India, which contain 20.7 kg of nitrogen at 46%. DAP, MOP and SSP come in 50 kg bags. The calculator rounds each product up to whole bags and shows the exact kilograms, so any part bag left over can be kept for the next application.

Is the dose per hectare or per acre?

Either. Choose the unit your recommendation uses, and separately the unit of your field. One acre is 0.4047 hectare, so a dose of 120 kg N per hectare is about 48.6 kg N per acre. The calculator converts between the two, so there is no need to work it out by hand.

Where do I get the right NPK dose for my crop?

Your Soil Health Card gives a dose based on a test of your own soil, which is the best figure to use. Without one, use the recommendation of the state agriculture department or the nearest Krishi Vigyan Kendra for your crop and season. The 120:60:40 figure on this page is only an example.
