Find every word added or removed between two versions of a PDF document
Processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Updated on 24 Oct 2026.When a contract, a quote or a report comes back as a new PDF, the question is what changed. This page reads the words of both versions page by page and marks every word that was removed or added, so a changed figure or clause cannot hide. The report lists the changes with the marks diff tools use, ready to keep.
Add the older version first and the newer version second.
Press Compare PDFs; the summary says how many pages differ and how many words were added or removed.
Open each listed page: removed words are struck through, added words highlighted.
Download the report to keep a record of every change, page by page.
Compare PDF shows what changed between two versions of a document: a contract that came back from the other side, a revised quote, a new edition of a policy. It checks every page in two ways and lists only the pages that differ.
Words. The text of each page is read from both files and compared word by word. Removed words are struck through and added words highlighted, so a changed amount, date or clause stands out. Spacing and line breaks from the page layout are ignored, so a paragraph that only reflowed is not reported as changed.
Report. Download report saves a plain-text file listing every changed page, with removed words in [- -] and added words in {+ +}, the marks diff tools use, ready to attach to an email or keep with the file.
The rest of the article, and all 6 questions about Compare PDF, are on the Compare PDF page.
Drop the original PDF in the first box and the changed one in the second, then press Compare PDFs. Every page is checked for added and removed words and for areas that look different. Tap a listed page to see both versions side by side with the changes marked.
Pages are compared by number: page 5 with page 5. If a page was inserted or deleted in the middle, every later page moves by one and shows as changed. The summary still says which file has extra pages, and the word marks show the shift clearly.
Partly. A scan holds pictures of pages, not words, so no word changes can be listed, but the pixel comparison still boxes areas that differ. Two scans of the same paper rarely line up exactly, so expect many boxes; run them through OCR first for a word comparison.
Up to 100 MB each, and the first 300 pages are compared. A long document takes a little time because each page is drawn twice; a progress bar shows the page being checked. Password-protected PDFs need their password removed with Unlock PDF first.
