This calculator works out an employee's monthly take-home pay in Ecuador in 2026: the gross salary less the personal IESS contribution and less the income tax the employer withholds every month.
IESS. A worker in private employment pays 9.45% of the salary to the Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social, and the employer adds 11.15%, 20.60% in all, according to the IESS. The calculator takes the 9.45% off every month; the rate is an option for other schemes.
The year's tax. The taxable base is the year's pay less the personal IESS contribution: twelve times the monthly salary after IESS. The SRI's 2026 table (Resolución NAC-DGERCGC25-00000043) taxes nothing up to $12,208, then charges 5%, 10%, 12%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35% and 37% above $109,956, each on the excess over the bracket's start plus a fixed amount for the brackets below.
The monthly withholding. The employer divides the year's tax by twelve. If you handed in a projection of personal expenses, the rebate it gives comes off the year's tax first; enter that yearly amount and the calculator lowers the withholding, never below zero.
Where tax starts. With the 9.45% off, a monthly salary up to about $1,124 stays under $12,208 a year and has nothing withheld. On $1,500 the base is $16,299 and the tax $242 a year.
What it leaves out. The décimo tercero and décimo cuarto (see the Ecuador Décimo Tercero and Décimo Cuarto Calculator), fondos de reserva, overtime, other income and the annual tax return. The rule that the IESS contribution comes off the tax base is the usual payroll treatment; the law text could not be read from here, so check it against your payslip.

An employee in private employment pays 9.45% of the salary to the IESS. Above about $1,124 a month the employer also withholds income tax, one twelfth of the year's tax by the SRI table. On $1,500 the IESS takes $141.75 and the tax $20.17, leaving $1,338.08 of take-home pay.
The 2026 SRI table taxes nothing up to $12,208 a year. After the 9.45% IESS contribution, twelve monthly salaries stay under that line up to about $1,124 a month, so lower salaries have no income tax withheld. The first bracket above it is taxed at 5%.
The employer takes twelve months of salary less the personal IESS contribution, applies the SRI table to get the year's tax, takes off the rebate for personal expenses the worker declared, and divides the rest by twelve. A change of salary during the year means the employer works it out again.
According to the IESS, a worker in private employment contributes 20.60% of pay in all: 9.45% personal, taken from the salary, and 11.15% paid by the employer on top. On $1,000 a month the worker pays $94.50 and the employer $111.50.
Workers who declare their personal expenses to the employer on the SRI's projection form get a rebate that comes off the year's income tax, not off the income. Enter the yearly rebate shown on your projection and the calculator lowers the monthly withholding, which can fall to zero but never below.
No. The décimo tercero and décimo cuarto are extra payments on top of the salary and are not part of this calculation. Use the Ecuador Décimo Tercero and Décimo Cuarto Calculator for them; this page shows the regular monthly salary after IESS and income tax.
