How many bags of urea, DAP and potash for your acres, from a per-acre dose
Estimates only, not financial advice. What you type stays on your device. Checked against sources on 30 Oct 2026.Enter the dose for one acre in kg of N, P2O5 and K2O, taken from your Soil Health Card or the agriculture office, and the number of acres. The calculator works out the kg and the bags of DAP, urea and MOP. DAP carries 18% nitrogen, so the urea is reduced by what the DAP already supplies.

The page opens with the dose in kg per acre, 48:24:16, and the field measured in acres.
Change Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potash to the per-acre dose for your crop.
Enter how many acres Your field is, and keep DAP under "Phosphorus from".
Read the urea and DAP bags with the total cost, then press Share result.
A 45 kg urea bag is the default.
A fertilizer recommendation is written in nutrients: kilograms of nitrogen (N), phosphorus as P2O5 and potash as K2O per hectare or per acre. The shop sells products in bags. This calculator turns the first into the second: how many kilograms of each product, how many bags to buy, and what they cost at the prices you enter.
The nutrient content is fixed by law. The Fertiliser (Control) Order 1985 sets the minimum each product must contain: urea 46% nitrogen, DAP 18% nitrogen and 46% P2O5, muriate of potash (MOP) 60% K2O, and single superphosphate (SSP) 16% P2O5 with 11% sulphur. Every recommendation in India uses these figures.
DAP brings nitrogen too. With DAP, all the phosphorus comes from DAP first. That DAP also carries 18% nitrogen, so the calculator subtracts it and urea supplies only the rest. Skip this step and the field gets extra nitrogen and the farmer pays for urea not needed. With SSP there is no nitrogen in the phosphorus product, so urea supplies all of it, and the SSP adds sulphur, which oilseeds and pulses use.

Divide the P2O5 dose by 0.46 to get DAP. Multiply that DAP by 0.18 for the nitrogen it carries, subtract from the N dose and divide the rest by 0.46 for urea. Divide the K2O dose by 0.60 for MOP. For 120:60:40 kg per hectare that is 130.4 kg DAP, 209.8 kg urea and 66.7 kg MOP.
DAP is 18% nitrogen as well as 46% phosphorus. Every 50 kg bag of DAP puts 9 kg of nitrogen into the field, so that much nitrogen does not have to come from urea. Counting it avoids buying extra urea and putting more nitrogen on the crop than the recommendation asks for.
Urea is sold in 45 kg bags in India, which contain 20.7 kg of nitrogen at 46%. DAP, MOP and SSP come in 50 kg bags. The calculator rounds each product up to whole bags and shows the exact kilograms, so any part bag left over can be kept for the next application.
Either. Choose the unit your recommendation uses, and separately the unit of your field. One acre is 0.4047 hectare, so a dose of 120 kg N per hectare is about 48.6 kg N per acre. The calculator converts between the two, so there is no need to work it out by hand.
