Open a pension account for your child and see what it could hold by their eighteenth
Estimates only, not financial advice. What you type stays on your device. Checked against sources on 30 Oct 2026.Starting a pension account in a child’s name buys the one thing no amount of money can: time for it to compound. Enter what you can put in each month, how old the child is, and the return you are willing to assume, and see the balance at eighteen. Market-linked, so every figure moves with the market.
Rates and rules read from the sources listed on this page (the earliest on 30 Oct 2026); they may have changed since.
Set the "Monthly contribution" to what you can put in each month.
Set "The child’s age today"; a younger child gives the money more years to compound.
Set the "Return you are assuming", knowing the real return moves with the market.
Choose "Leave it invested" or "Keep contributing" under "On the eighteenth birthday" to follow the account to 60.
Read the balance at 18 and the "Balance at 60", and open "Year by year" for each birthday.
The page also shows the split the scheme allows then, and what the same money becomes at sixty if nobody touches it.
The NPS Vatsalya calculator shows what a pension account opened for a child could be worth on their eighteenth birthday, and what happens to it afterwards. Enter a monthly contribution, the child's age today, and the return you want to assume. You get the balance at 18, how much of that is your own money, the exit the scheme allows at that point, and a year-by-year table.
One thing has to be said plainly before any of the numbers mean anything. NPS Vatsalya is market-linked. The money goes into equity, corporate bonds and government securities through a pension fund, and no return is promised, guaranteed or floored. Unlike PPF or Sukanya Samriddhi, there is no notified rate to look up, so this page does not use one. The rate in the result is the one you chose, carried through unchanged, and moving it a couple of points either way will change the answer more than anything else on the screen. Try 8%, then 12%, and treat the gap between them as the honest answer.
What the scheme adds around that: a minimum of ₹1,000 in a financial year and no maximum; a partial withdrawal of up to 25% of your contributions, allowed after three years in the scheme, up to three times before 18; and on the eighteenth birthday the account becomes an ordinary NPS Tier-I account. A corpus at or below ₹2.5 lakh can be taken in full then; above that, at least 80% must buy an annuity. Estimates only, not financial advice.

A parent or legal guardian opens the account for any Indian child below eighteen, and operates it until then. The child is the subscriber throughout. Accounts can be opened at a bank, a post office, an online eNPS portal or a point of presence registered with the pension regulator.
On the eighteenth birthday the account becomes an ordinary NPS Tier-I account in the All Citizen Model, after fresh KYC. A corpus at or below ₹2.5 lakh can be withdrawn in full at that point; above that, at least 80% must buy an annuity and up to 20% can be taken in cash.
Up to 25% of the contributions made, not of the total corpus, may be withdrawn after three years in the scheme, for education, a specified illness or disability, and up to three times before the child turns eighteen. Everything else stays invested until the account converts.
NPS Vatsalya account kaise khole: a parent or guardian applies at a bank, post office or the eNPS website with the child's birth certificate and the guardian's KYC documents, then pays at least ₹1,000 for the year. A PRAN is issued in the child's name. The calculator here only estimates the balance; it opens nothing.
Rates and rules change; check the source before you rely on a figure.
