Blur Face in Photo

Blur faces in a photo so people cannot be recognised

Processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Updated on 24 Oct 2026.

Blur a face before posting a photo of a crowd, a classroom or a stranger in the background. Draw a box over each face and a strong blur is written into the pixels themselves, with a trace of noise so it cannot be sharpened back. For the strongest hiding choose Pixelate or Solid box instead. Location and camera data are removed when the photo is saved, and nothing is uploaded.

Next:
  • Compress the image Shrink JPG, PNG and WebP with a live before and after preview
  • Resize the image Resize by pixels or percent, with presets for passport photos and social media
  • Convert the image JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO, SVG and HEIC, converted on your device

How to blur a face in a photo

1

Add the photo with Select images; Blur is already chosen.

2

Drag a box over each face, a little larger than the head.

3

Keep Strength high so features cannot be made out, and check the preview.

4

Press the Blur button and Download; the saved photo has the blurred pixels only.

How Blur Face in Photo works

Blur or Pixelate Image hides the parts of a photo you do not want to share: faces in a crowd, a car's number plate, an address on a parcel, a name or a balance in a screenshot.

Pixelate, blur or solid box: which is safest?

Effect What happens to the pixels Best for
Pixelate Each block becomes one average colour Faces, screens, a recognisable look
Blur A wide blur plus a trace of noise Faces and backgrounds, a softer look
Solid box Every pixel becomes flat near-black Text, numbers, anything that must be unreadable

Is the hidden part really gone?

Yes. The effect replaces the pixels themselves before the photo is encoded again; it is not a layer on top that could be removed. The noise added to a blur stops it being sharpened back. Saving through the canvas writes pixels only, so EXIF data such as GPS location, camera model and the date taken is not in the new file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I blur part of a picture?

Open the photo here, drag a box over the part to hide and choose Blur, then press the Blur button and Download. Paint with Brush for shapes a box does not fit. The blur is written into the pixels of a new file, and your photo never leaves your device.

How do I pixelate a face in a photo?

Choose Pixelate, drag a box slightly larger than the face, and raise Strength until the features are only a few large squares. Each block becomes the average colour of the pixels under it, so the face cannot be rebuilt. Then press the Pixelate button and Download the new photo.

How do I blur a number plate in a car photo?

Drag a box over the plate, a little wider than the characters, and choose Pixelate or Solid box at a high strength; a light blur can leave large characters readable. Check the preview, press the button to apply it, and Download. One photo of up to 50 MB at a time.

Is my photo uploaded to blur it?

No. Every step, from opening the photo to blurring and saving it, runs in your browser, with the heavy work in a background worker so the page keeps responding. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored, so private photos stay private.
