Frequently asked questions

How are overtime hours paid in France?

Without a collective agreement, each hour beyond 35 in a calendar week is paid 25% more for the 36th to 43rd hour and 50% more from the 44th hour. An agreement may set different rates, at least 10%. At 13.19 euros an hour, a 39-hour week adds 65.95 euros of overtime pay.

How do I find my hourly rate from a monthly salary?

Divide the gross monthly salary by 151.67, the hours in a full-time month of 35 hours a week. A salary of 2,000 euros gives 13.19 euros an hour, and Urssaf's example uses 12.50 euros an hour for a salary of 1,895.88 euros.

Are overtime hours taxed in France?

Overtime pay is free of income tax up to 7,500 euros of net taxable pay a year, for 2025 and 2026 income, and the exempt amount is pre-filled on the tax return. The part above 7,500 euros is taxed like the rest of the salary. Unused RTT days sold back to the employer count towards the same ceiling.

What contributions are taken from overtime pay?

Employee pension contributions on overtime are cancelled by a relief of up to 11.31%, made of 7.30% basic pension, 3.15% Agirc-Arrco and 0.86% CEG. The CSG and CRDS of 9.7% on 98.25% of the pay remain, so about 90% of the overtime pay reaches the employee.
