Social security. Old-age insurance takes 6.90% of pay up to the monthly ceiling of 4,005 euros and 0.40% of all pay. The employee unemployment contribution no longer exists.
Supplementary pension. Agirc-Arrco takes 3.15% up to 4,005 euros and 8.64% between 4,005 and 32,040 euros, plus the CEG (0.86% and 1.08%) and, once pay passes the ceiling, the CET of 0.14%. A cadre also pays 0.024% to the Apec.
CSG and CRDS. Both are charged on 98.25% of gross pay: CSG 9.2%, of which 2.4% is not deductible from taxable income, and CRDS 0.5%.
Net imposable and tax at source. Taxable pay is net pay plus the non-deductible CSG and the CRDS. Your employer withholds income tax at the personal rate on your tax notice, or at the neutral rate (taux neutre) from the grid, which runs from 0% below 1,635 euros a month to 43%.
A worked example. On 2,500 euros gross a month, non-cadre: contributions 521.01 euros, net before tax 1,978.99, net imposable 2,050.22, neutral rate 2.9% (59.46 euros), net after tax 1,919.53.
Not included. Employer contributions, mutuelle and prévoyance, the over-65 contribution, Alsace-Moselle and overtime. For overtime, see the France Overtime Calculator; for the yearly household tax, the France Income Tax Calculator.

Take off the employee contributions: 6.90% and 0.40% old-age insurance, 3.15% Agirc-Arrco and 0.86% CEG below the 4,005 euro ceiling, then 9.2% CSG and 0.5% CRDS on 98.25% of gross pay. About 21% goes below the ceiling, so 2,500 euros gross leaves 1,978.99 euros before tax at source.
Net imposable adds back the part of the CSG that is not deductible (2.4%) and the CRDS (0.5%) to net pay, because income tax is charged on them too. On 2,500 euros gross, net pay is 1,978.99 euros and net imposable 2,050.22 euros. Tax at source is applied to the net imposable.
Employers use the neutral rate when an employee has not passed on a personal rate. In metropolitan France, from 1 May 2026, monthly taxable pay below 1,635 euros pays 0%, from 1,635 euros 0.5%, from 2,060 euros 3.5%, from 3,135 euros 9.9%, and the grid ends at 43% from 55,558 euros.
On the same gross pay the difference is small: a cadre pays an extra 0.024% to the Apec, about 60 cents on 2,500 euros. The statutory rates are otherwise the same. Larger gaps on real payslips come from prévoyance and mutuelle contracts, which depend on the employer and are not included here.
The 6.90% old-age contribution stops at the ceiling of 4,005 euros, while Agirc-Arrco rises to 8.64% and the CEG to 1.08% on pay between 4,005 and 32,040 euros. A 0.14% CET is also charged on all pay up to 32,040 euros once the salary passes the ceiling.
No. Only the employee's deductions are worked out, so the result is what the employee receives. The employer pays its own contributions on top of the gross salary, with reductions on low pay that depend on the company, so the total employer cost is not estimated.
