French VAT on one or many lines: HT to TTC and back at 20, 10, 5.5 or 2.1 %, DOM too
Estimates only, not financial advice. What you type stays on your device. Checked against sources on 18 Oct 2026.France has four TVA rates in mainland France and Corsica, 20, 10, 5.5 and 2.1 per cent. To go from HT to TTC, multiply by 1 plus the rate: 100 € HT at 20 % is 120 € TTC. To go back, divide: 120 € TTC is 100 € HT, so the TVA is one sixth of the TTC amount.

Choose whether your amounts are HT (before TVA) or TTC (TVA included).
Type the amount and tap its rate: 20, 10, 5.5 or 2.1 %, or the DOM rates.
Add a line for each item at another rate, as on an invoice.
Read the TVA and the HT and TTC totals, line by line and by rate.
This calculator adds French TVA to amounts before tax (HT, hors taxes) or takes it out of amounts that include it (TTC, toutes taxes comprises). Each line of an invoice can have its own rate, and the result gives the TVA line by line and for each rate.
The rates in mainland France and Corsica. The normal rate of 20 % applies whenever no other rate is set (CGI art. 278). The reduced rate of 10 % covers, for example, hotels, restaurants and passenger transport; the reduced rate of 5.5 % many food products and books; the particular rate of 2.1 % medicines reimbursed by social security. The law decides which rate a product takes: check BOFiP for a specific case. Corsica has special rates for some operations, which this page does not include.
Guadeloupe, Martinique and La Réunion. The normal rate is 8.5 % and the reduced rate 2.1 %, which applies to what is at 5.5 % or 10 % in mainland France. Two particular rates exist: 1.75 % and 1.05 %. In Guyane and Mayotte, TVA does not apply for now.
From 1 January 2027. The TVA rules move to the Code des impositions sur les biens et services (Ordonnance n° 2025-1247, start moved to 1 January 2027 by Ordonnance n° 2026-671). Its article L. 213-151 keeps the same rates. The 1.75 % rate then covers live animals sold to small farmers under the franchise.
HT to TTC. TVA = HT × rate, and TTC = HT + TVA. At 20 %, 250 € HT gives 50 € of TVA and 300 € TTC.
TTC to HT. HT = TTC ÷ (1 + rate). Taking 20 % off a TTC price is a common mistake: at 20 %, the TVA is one sixth of the TTC, so 300 € TTC holds 50 € of TVA, not 60 €. BOFiP gives the coefficient 0.833 for this conversion.
Rounding. Each line is rounded to the cent and the totals add the rounded lines.

Multiply the HT price by the rate to get the TVA, then add the two for the TTC price. At 20 %, 100 € HT gives 20 € of TVA and 120 € TTC. At 5.5 %, 100 € HT gives 5.50 € of TVA and 105.50 € TTC.
Divide the TTC price by 1 plus the rate: by 1.2 at 20 %, 1.1 at 10 %, 1.055 at 5.5 % and 1.021 at 2.1 %. A price of 120 € TTC at 20 % is 100 € HT. Subtracting 20 % of the TTC would give 96 €, which is wrong.
Mainland France and Corsica have four rates: the normal rate of 20 %, two reduced rates of 10 % and 5.5 %, and a particular rate of 2.1 %. The 20 % rate applies whenever the law sets no other rate, under article 278 of the Code général des impôts.
Guadeloupe, Martinique and La Réunion have a normal rate of 8.5 % and a reduced rate of 2.1 %, plus particular rates of 1.75 % and 1.05 %, according to impots.gouv.fr. In Guyane and Mayotte, TVA does not apply for now.
At 20 %, the TVA is one sixth of the TTC price, about 16.67 %. A bill of 300 € TTC holds 50 € of TVA and 250 € HT. BOFiP gives the coefficient 0.833 to convert receipts that include 20 % TVA into amounts before tax.
Items at different rates each take their own TVA, so an order with food at 5.5 % and other goods at 20 % is worked out rate by rate. In the calculator each line is rounded to the cent and the By rate tab adds the HT, the TVA and the TTC of every line at 20, 10, 5.5 or 2.1 %.
