Your last day of service from your date of birth, under the rule your employer uses
Estimates only, not financial advice. What you type stays on your device. Checked against sources on 23 Oct 2026.Retirement Date Calculator turns a date of birth into a last working day. Born 14 August 1975 and retiring at 60, central government service ends on 31 August 2035, not on the birthday: rule 56 retires a servant on the last day of that month, 17 days later.
Rates and rules read from DoPT, Retirement/Extension in service (F.R. 56) on 23 Oct 2026; they may have changed since.
Enter your "Date of birth" as recorded in your service book.
Pick a retirement age chip or set "You retire at".
Under "Which rule does your employer use?", pick Government (F.R. 56), End of that month or On the birthday.
Add "Joined on (optional)" and press "Use today’s date" to see the service completed and the time left.
Read the "Last day of service", then press Share result.
Most people assume they retire on their birthday, and in central government service almost nobody does.
Fundamental Rule 56(a), as published by the Department of Personnel and Training, says every government servant "shall retire from service on the afternoon of the last day of the month in which he attains the age of sixty years", with a proviso that a servant born on the first of a month retires on the last day of the preceding month. So someone born on 14 August 1975 works until 31 August 2035, seventeen days past their birthday, while someone born on 1 August 1975 stops on 31 July 2035 — a month earlier than they usually expect, and worth knowing before a pension form is filled in.
Three rules are offered here because no single one covers everybody. The birthday rule is what most private employers use. The month-end rule, without the first-of-the-month proviso, is what many state governments, banks and public sector undertakings follow. The third is Fundamental Rule 56(a) in full. Your service rules or appointment letter decide which applies; this page applies whichever you pick and says how many days it gains or costs against the plain birthday.
The retirement age itself is always your own input. Sixty is the central government age under that rule, but the same extract sets 62 for specialists in the Central Health Service and 65 for its teaching sub-cadre and for nursing faculty, several states use 58, and private employers set their own. Nothing here assumes one for you.
Add a joining date and the completed service on the last day appears too, in years, months and days — the figure gratuity and pension both turn on. Add today's date and the time left appears the same way.

Retiring at 60 under central government rules, the last day of service is 31 August 2035, because Fundamental Rule 56(a) retires a servant on the last day of the month in which the age is attained. A private employer using the birthday rule would make it 14 August 2035 instead.
Fundamental Rule 56(a) says a government servant retires on the afternoon of the last day of the month in which the age of sixty is attained. Ending everyone's service on a month boundary keeps pay, pension and the last month's records on one cycle rather than splitting a month in two.
Service ends a month earlier than most people expect. The proviso to Fundamental Rule 56(a) retires a servant born on the first of a month on the last day of the preceding month, so a birth date of 1 August 1975 gives a retirement date of 31 July 2035, not 31 August.
No. Sixty is the central government age under Fundamental Rule 56(a), but the same rule sets 62 for specialists in the Central Health Service and 65 for its teaching sub-cadre and nursing faculty. Several states retire staff at 58, and private employers set their own age in the appointment letter.
Retirement ki date kaise nikale needs two things: your date of birth and the age your service retires you at. Enter both above and pick the rule your employer follows — the birthday itself, the end of that month, or the full government rule — and the exact last day of service appears.
Add your joining date and the completed service appears in years, months and days on the last day of service. Gratuity counts completed years and rounds a part year over six months up, and pension rules count service differently again, so check the exact figure with your employer.
Rates and rules change; check the source before you rely on a figure.
