In 2026 the employee also pays 6% RSSB pension and 0.5% CBHI. On RWF 500,000 that is 114,000 PAYE, 30,000 pension and 1,780 CBHI.

This calculator works out what a Rwandan employer takes from a month's pay: Pay As You Earn (PAYE), the employee's share of the RSSB mandatory pension and the community-based health insurance (CBHI) contribution. It also shows the employer's pension share.
PAYE. The Rwanda Revenue Authority's bands, the same as Article 56 of Law nº 027/2022: the first RWF 60,000 a month at 0%, the next 40,000 at 10%, the next 100,000 at 20% and everything above RWF 200,000 at 30%. PAYE is worked on gross pay: the law leaves out only the employer's social security contribution, not the employee's. A casual labourer pays 15% on pay above RWF 60,000, and a second employer withholds 30% on all of it.
RSSB pension. Presidential Order N° 086/01 of 12 December 2024 sets the total at 12% from 1 January 2025 and 14% from 1 January 2027, rising to 20% in 2030. RSSB says the contribution is shared equally, so 6% each in 2026 and 7% each from 2027. RSSB's pension page still prints 15% (7.5% each), the figures of its medical scheme; the calculator follows the Order and says so.
CBHI. The Prime Minister's Order of 16 February 2026 charges employees 0.5% of net salary. It does not define net salary, so the calculator takes pay after PAYE and the employee's pension.
What it does not do. The maternity leave contribution and the employer's occupational hazards contribution are left out, because no official page read gave their rates. The pension is charged on the whole pay typed. Results are in whole francs.

Split the month's gross pay into the RRA bands: the first RWF 60,000 at 0%, the next 40,000 at 10%, the next 100,000 at 20% and the rest at 30%. Add the parts. On RWF 500,000 that is 0 + 4,000 + 20,000 + 90,000 = RWF 114,000.
Presidential Order N° 086/01 of 12 December 2024 fixes 12% of the pay subject to contribution from 1 January 2025, shared equally: 6% from the employee and 6% from the employer. From 1 January 2027 the total becomes 14%, so 7% each, and it rises by two points a year to 20% in 2030.
RSSB's pension page, read on 22 October 2026, still says 15% with 7.5% each, the same figures as its medical scheme page. The Presidential Order published in the Official Gazette sets 12% for 2025 and 2026, and an order has the force of law, so the calculator uses 12%. Check your payslip or ask RSSB if they differ.
No. Law nº 027/2022 leaves out of taxable employment income only the employer's contribution to social security. The employee's own 6% is not listed as exempt, so PAYE is worked on the gross pay. Type the full pay, allowances included, but not the employer's contribution.
Under the Prime Minister's Order n° 001/03 of 16 February 2026, an employee in the public or private sector pays 0.5% of net salary, withheld by the employer each month. The Order does not define net salary; the calculator uses pay after PAYE and pension. On RWF 500,000 that is RWF 1,780.
Casual labourers pay 15% on monthly pay above RWF 60,000, with the first 60,000 at 0%, under Article 56 of the income tax law. When an employer is not your first employer, RRA says it withholds 30% on all of the pay. Pick the case in the calculator to see the PAYE.
