Video to JPG turns moments of a video into pictures. Use it for a thumbnail, a still for a report, a storyboard of a clip, or frames to label for a project. It works on any video your browser can play, including large phone and camera files.
One moment. The video opens in a player. Play or drag to the moment you want, pause, and press Save this frame: that exact frame downloads at the video's full size, named with the file and the time.
Many moments. Choose a number of pictures and they are spread evenly through the video, each from the middle of an equal part, so you do not get a black first frame. Or take one every few seconds, starting at 0:00, like a contact sheet. Or type the times you want, such as 0:05, 1:23.5 or 1m20s. Up to 300 pictures are taken in one run; the grid fills as they are made, and Stop keeps what is done.
Files. JPG suits camera footage and keeps files small; PNG keeps every pixel exactly, which suits screen recordings, slides and text; WebP is smaller still. Pictures are the video's own size, or limited to 1920, 1280 or 640 pixels on the longer side. Each name is numbered so the files sort in order and carries its time with dashes in place of colons, such as holiday_003_1-23.5.jpg. Several pictures download as one zip.
How it works. The browser's own video player is moved to each moment and its frame is drawn onto a canvas, which is why anything the browser plays works and nothing but the pictures is encoded. A video it cannot play, such as some AVI files, needs converting to MP4 first.
Everything runs on your device and nothing is uploaded.
Drop the video on this page, play or drag the player to the moment you want and pause. Press Save this frame and that exact frame downloads as a JPG at the full size of the video. Choose PNG or WebP under Save as first if you prefer those.
Choose how many pictures to spread evenly through the video, one every few seconds, or type the times such as 0:05, 1:23.5. Press Extract, check the pictures in the grid, then press Download for one zip. Up to 300 pictures can be taken from one video.
Any video your browser can play: MP4 and MOV with H.264 almost everywhere, WebM in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and HEVC on Safari and recent Windows. A video the browser cannot play has no readable frames, so the page offers MOV to MP4 to convert it first.
The same size as the video by default, so a 1080p video gives 1920 by 1080 pictures. Under More options, choose up to 1920, 1280 or 640 pixels on the longer side for smaller files. Pictures are never enlarged beyond the video's own size.
Evenly spaced pictures are taken from the middle of equal parts of the video, because the very first frame is often black and the last can be past the end. For a picture at the start, choose One every few seconds, which begins at 0:00, or type 0 as a time.
No. The video plays in your own browser and the pictures are drawn and zipped on your device, so nothing reaches a server. Even large videos of several gigabytes open quickly, because the browser reads only the parts it needs for each picture.
