This calculator works out the maternity benefit (প্রসূতি কল্যাণ সুবিধা) a woman worker is owed under chapter IV of the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006, as amended by the Bangladesh Labour (Amendment) Act 2026. Type the last monthly gross wage, the months of service and the number of living children, and the two payments and the total appear at once.
How long. Section 46 now gives 60 days before the expected date of delivery and 60 days after it; before 2026 it was eight weeks each. Section 47(3) lets the worker stay away for up to 120 days with the benefit.
Which wage counts. Section 48, replaced in 2026, takes the last fixed monthly total wage, not only the basic, and divides it by 26 to give the daily average wage. A 20,000 taka gross wage gives 769.23 taka a day, and 120 days give 92,308 taka. The calculator pays the 60 + 60 days at that daily rate and says so.
Who qualifies. The worker must have worked at least six months for the employer just before the delivery. No benefit is paid if two or more of her children are alive at the delivery, though any leave she is due is still given. A miscarriage before the leave starts carries no benefit; sick leave can still be taken.
When it is paid. The employer pays the first part within three working days of a doctor's certificate that delivery is expected within 60 days, and the rest within three working days of proof of the birth, or the whole sum after that proof, as the worker chooses. If the mother dies at or within 60 days after the delivery, the benefit goes to whoever looks after the child, or to her nominee.
What it does not cover. A contract, a settlement or government service rules may give more; this calculator shows the Labour Act minimum.

Under section 46 of the Labour Act as amended in 2026, a woman worker gets maternity benefit for 60 days before the expected date of delivery and 60 days after it, 120 days in all. Before the 2026 amendment the law gave eight weeks before and eight weeks after the birth.
Section 48, replaced in 2026, divides the last fixed monthly gross wage by 26 to get the daily average wage, and the benefit is paid at that rate for the 60 days before and the 60 days after delivery. A 13,000 taka gross wage gives 500 taka a day and 60,000 taka in total.
A worker who has not worked at least six months for the employer just before the delivery is not eligible, and neither is a mother with two or more living children at the time of the birth, although she still gets any leave due. A miscarriage before the leave starts carries no benefit either.
Section 47(4) lets the worker choose: the first part within three working days of a doctor's certificate that delivery is expected within 60 days and the rest within three working days of proof of the birth, or the whole amount within three working days of that proof.
On the gross wage. Since the 2026 amendment section 48(2) uses the last fixed monthly total wage, which includes house rent, medical, food and transport allowances, divided by 26. Overtime and gratuity use the basic wage instead, so the maternity figure is noticeably higher for the same worker.
If a woman entitled to the benefit dies at the delivery or within 60 days after it, section 49 says the employer pays the benefit to the person who takes care of the child, or to her nominee if the child has not survived, or else to her legal representative.
