About the Business Days Calculator

The Business Days Calculator does two jobs. Count gives the business days between two dates, with the calendar days, the weekend days and every holiday it took out listed by name. Add or subtract gives the date that falls a number of business days after or before a date, the way a deadline of "10 business days" is read.

Weekends. Choose Saturday and Sunday (the United States and most countries), Sunday only for a six-day week, or Friday and Saturday as in several Gulf countries.

Holidays. Switch on the US federal holidays to skip the eleven legal public holidays on the day they are observed: a holiday on a Saturday is taken off on the Friday before and one on a Sunday on the Monday after, so New Year's Day 2028 is observed on Friday 31 December 2027. The dates come from the Federal Holiday Calendar on this site, which follows 5 U.S.C. 6103 and the published OPM tables. Add your own holidays, such as a company shutdown or a state holiday, as dates like 2026-11-27 or 11/27/2026. A holiday on a weekend is not taken out twice. No other country's list is built in, because holidays in India, for example, differ by state and employer.

What counts. In Count, the start and end dates are both included unless you switch either off. In Add, counting starts on the day after the start date, so 5 business days after a Monday is the next Monday, and 0 business days returns the start date itself.

What the calculator does not do: it does not know your employer's or a bank's holiday calendar (the Federal Reserve and stock markets close on some different days), it does not count half days or hours, and it does not decide whether a legal deadline counts business or calendar days; the rule or contract that sets the deadline says which. Everything runs in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I count business days between two dates?

Count the weekdays from the start to the end date, then take out any holiday that falls on a weekday. From 1 October to 31 December 2026 there are 66 weekdays; Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas fall on weekdays, so 62 business days remain. The calculator lists each holiday it removed.

What date is 10 business days from a given date?

Start counting on the next day and skip weekends and holidays. From Friday 20 November 2026, the tenth business day is Monday 7 December, because Thanksgiving on 26 November is skipped. Without that holiday it would be Friday 4 December. Choose Add, enter the start date and the number, and the date appears.

Are federal holidays business days?

Not for federal offices: the eleven US federal holidays are paid days off for federal employees. Private employers and banks choose their own holiday calendars, and some stay open on days such as Columbus Day. So the federal list is a switch here, and you can add your own dates or use them instead.

What happens when a holiday falls on a weekend?

Federal employees on a Monday to Friday schedule get the Friday before a Saturday holiday and the Monday after a Sunday holiday. In 2026 Independence Day falls on Saturday 4 July, so Friday 3 July is the day off and the calculator removes Friday 3 July from the count.

Does the count include the start and end date?

In Count mode both dates are included by default, which matches how most people count a period such as a contract or a quarter. Switch either one off to exclude it. In Add mode counting begins on the day after the start date, so 0 business days returns the start date.

Can I use a different weekend or my own holidays?

Yes. Choose Sunday only for a six-day working week, or Friday and Saturday, and type your own holiday dates, such as 2026-11-27 or 11/27/2026, separated by commas or new lines. A holiday that already falls on a weekend is ignored, so nothing is taken out twice.
