About the Guatemala Bono 14 Calculator

The Bono 14 is the annual bonus every employer in Guatemala, private or public, pays its workers under Decreto 42-92. It comes on top of the aguinaldo and does not count towards it.

How much. Article 2 gives 100% of one month's ordinary salary to a worker with an unbroken year of service before the payment date. The salary used is the average of the ordinary monthly salaries earned in the year that ends in June, so a raise in March counts only for the months after it.

When. Article 3 says it is paid in the first fortnight of July. The year it covers runs from 1 July of the year before to 30 June.

Less than a year. If you started during the year, you receive the part proportional to the time worked. If the job ends, the employer must pay the part for the time between the 1 July before and your last day, whatever the cause of the ending. This page counts the days worked, both ends included, over the days of that July-June year (365, or 366 when it holds 29 February).

Example. On Q4,000 a month: the full year pays Q4,000; starting on 1 January 2026 pays 181 of 365 days, Q1,983.56; leaving on 31 December 2025 pays 184 days, Q2,016.44.

Not included. Income tax on the bonus and the indemnización of article 82 of the Código de Trabajo, which counts a share of the Bono 14 (article 4 of the decree).

Frequently asked questions

How is the Bono 14 calculated?

Decreto 42-92 gives one month of ordinary salary, using the average of the ordinary monthly salaries earned from 1 July of last year to 30 June of this year. A worker with the whole year receives 100% of that average. A worker with less than a year receives the part proportional to the time worked.

When is the Bono 14 paid?

In the first fortnight of July each year, under article 3 of Decreto 42-92. The bonus covers the year from 1 July of the previous year to 30 June. It is separate from the aguinaldo and, under article 6, it is not counted when the aguinaldo is worked out.

How much Bono 14 do I get if I started during the year?

The proportional part: your days worked from your start date to 30 June, divided by the days of the July-June year, times your average monthly salary. Starting on 1 January 2026 with Q4,000 a month gives 181 of 365 days, which is Q1,983.56, paid in July 2026.

Do I get the Bono 14 if I resign or am dismissed?

Yes. Article 3 of Decreto 42-92 says that when the job ends, for any cause, the employer pays the part for the time between the 1 July before and the last day. Leaving on 31 December 2025 with Q4,000 a month gives 184 of 365 days, which is Q2,016.44.

Which salary counts for the Bono 14?

The ordinary salary, averaged over the year that ends in June. If your salary changed during the year, add the ordinary salary of each month and divide by the number of months. Type that average on this page, and keep to the ordinary salary the decree speaks of.

Is the Bono 14 the same as the aguinaldo?

No. Article 1 of Decreto 42-92 makes the Bono 14 additional to and independent of the aguinaldo, and article 6 says it does not count when the aguinaldo is calculated. The Bono 14 is one ordinary monthly salary, paid in the first half of July.
