This calculator works out overtime pay under the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006, as amended up to 2026, and the Bangladesh Labour Rules 2015. Choose how you are paid, type the basic wage and the overtime hours, and the hourly rate, the overtime rate and the pay appear at once.
The 208 divisor. Rule 102 of the Labour Rules 2015 turns a wage into an hourly rate: one eighth of a daily wage, one forty-eighth of a weekly wage, and one two-hundred-and-eighth of a monthly wage, because 52 weeks divided by 12 months times 48 hours is 208 hours. The overtime pay is then basic × 2 × hours ÷ 208. A contract may agree a different method only if it is not worse for the worker.
Working an example. A worker on an 8,000 taka basic has an ordinary hourly rate of 38.46 taka and an overtime rate of 76.92 taka. Fifty-two overtime hours in a month come to 4,000 taka on top of the wage.

Overtime is paid at twice the ordinary hourly rate under section 108 of the Labour Act. For a monthly-paid worker the hourly rate is the basic wage with dearness allowance divided by 208, so the formula is basic × 2 × overtime hours ÷ 208, as rule 102 of the Labour Rules 2015 explains.
Rule 102 counts 52 weeks of 48 hours spread over 12 months: 52 ÷ 12 × 48 = 208 hours in a month. A weekly wage is divided by 48 and a daily wage by 8. Dividing the basic by these hours gives the ordinary hourly rate, which is then doubled for overtime.
An adult worker may work up to 10 hours a day and 60 hours a week including overtime, under sections 100 and 102, and no more than 56 hours a week on average over a year. Normal hours are 8 a day and 48 a week; road transport workers may do at most 150 overtime hours a year.
An 8,000 taka basic gives an ordinary hourly rate of 8,000 ÷ 208 = 38.46 taka and an overtime rate of 76.92 taka an hour. Fifty-two overtime hours in a month therefore pay 4,000 taka on top of the monthly wage, under section 108 and rule 102.
