This calculator works out the federal social-security deductions on a Swiss salary: old-age and survivors' insurance (AHV), disability insurance (IV), income compensation (EO) and unemployment insurance (ALV). It follows the 2026 leaflets of the Informationsstelle AHV/IV.
AHV, IV and EO. The three contributions total 10.6% of salary: 8.7% AHV, 1.4% IV and 0.5% EO. The employer deducts half, 5.3%, from the employee and pays the other half itself. There is no ceiling: the whole salary counts.
Unemployment insurance. ALV is 2.2% of salary up to CHF 148,200 a year, again half each, so 1.1% from the employee. A monthly payroll applies one twelfth of the ceiling, CHF 12,350. Since 2023 nothing is due on salary above it.
A worked example. CHF 7,000 a month: AHV CHF 304.50, IV CHF 49.00, EO CHF 17.50, ALV CHF 77.00. Total CHF 448.00, pay after these deductions CHF 6,552.00. The employer adds CHF 448.00, so the salary costs CHF 7,448.00.
Past the reference age. People still working at 65 or older pay AHV, IV and EO on salary above CHF 16,800 a year (CHF 1,400 a month) and no ALV. They can ask the employer to skip the allowance to raise their pension.
Small salaries. Up to CHF 2,500 a year with one employer, contributions are taken only if the employee asks.
Not included. The occupational pension (BVG), accident insurance, withholding tax, the employer's family-allowance contributions and the part-year ALV ceiling. An estimate, not advice.

Employees pay 5.3% of gross salary for AHV, IV and EO together: 4.35% old-age and survivors, 0.7% disability and 0.25% income compensation. The employer pays another 5.3%, making the 10.6% total in the AHV/IV leaflet 2.01. On CHF 7,000 a month that is CHF 371 from the employee.
Unemployment insurance (ALV) costs 2.2% of salary up to CHF 148,200 a year, split equally, so the employee pays 1.1%. A monthly payroll caps the salary at CHF 12,350. Since 1 January 2023 no ALV is due on pay above the ceiling, so a CHF 15,000 monthly salary pays CHF 135.85.
Yes, people still working past the reference age keep paying AHV, IV and EO, but CHF 16,800 a year (CHF 1,400 a month) is free of contributions and no ALV is due. On CHF 3,000 a month, contributions fall on CHF 1,600 only: CHF 84.80 from the employee.
For AHV, IV, EO and ALV the employer pays the same amount as the employee, 6.4% up to the ALV ceiling. A CHF 7,000 monthly salary therefore costs at least CHF 7,448, before the occupational pension, accident insurance, family-allowance and administration contributions, which vary by fund and canton.
Pay of up to CHF 2,500 a year with one employer is only subject to AHV, IV, EO and ALV contributions if the employee asks for them. Contributions also start only from 1 January after the 17th birthday. Household employees are covered by this rule as well, per leaflet 2.01.
Payslips also deduct the occupational pension (BVG), set by each pension fund and rising with age, non-occupational accident insurance (NBU) and, for many foreign workers, withholding tax. This calculator shows only the federal AHV/IV/EO and ALV rates, which are the same everywhere in Switzerland.
