This calculator works out the PAYE, UIF and take-home pay on a South African salary for the 2027 tax year, 1 March 2026 to 28 February 2027, using the rates SARS published after the February 2026 budget.
How PAYE is worked out. A monthly salary is multiplied by twelve and taxed on the year's table: 18% up to R245 100, then 26%, 31%, 36%, 39%, 41%, and 45% above R1 878 600. The rebates come off that tax: R17 820 for everyone, another R9 765 from age 65 and R3 249 more from 75. Medical scheme fees tax credits come off next, and the rest divided by twelve is the monthly PAYE.
A worked example. R30,000 a month is R360,000 a year. Tax is R44,118 plus 26% of R114,900, so R73,992. Less the primary rebate it is R56,172 a year, R4,681 a month.
Thresholds. Nobody under 65 pays tax on R99 000 a year or less; the thresholds are R153 250 from 65 and R171 300 from 75.
Medical aid. The credit is R376 a month for the main member, R752 with one dependant and R254 for each further dependant. Count everyone on the scheme, yourself included.
UIF. The employee pays 1% of pay, and the employer another 1%, on pay up to R17 712 a month, so the deduction is never more than R177.12. Switch it off if you work fewer than 24 hours a month or for national or provincial government.
Not included. Retirement fund deductions, fringe benefits, travel allowances, bonuses taxed in a single month, the additional medical expenses credit and the skills development levy. An estimate, not tax advice.

The medical scheme fees tax credit comes straight off the tax: R376 a month for the main member, R752 for the member and one dependant, and R254 for each further dependant in 2027. A family of four on a scheme saves R1,260 of PAYE each month.
UIF is 1% of the employee’s remuneration, with the employer adding another 1%, on pay up to R17 712 a month. Above the ceiling the deduction stays at R177.12 a month. Employees working fewer than 24 hours a month and government employees are excluded.
Yes. From 65 a secondary rebate of R9 765 is added to the R17 820 primary rebate, and from 75 a tertiary rebate of R3 249 more. A 70-year-old on R30,000 a month pays R46,407 a year instead of R56,172, nearly R814 less each month.
