Checked against sources on 20 Oct 2026.In Zambia in 2026 PAYE takes nothing from the first K5,100 of monthly pay, 20% of the next K2,000, 30% up to K9,200 and 37% above that. On K15,000 a month the Zambia Revenue Authority's own example gives K3,176 of tax and K11,824 of net pay.

This calculator works out Pay As You Earn, the income tax a Zambian employer deducts from an employee's pay each month, with the 2026 bands the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) publishes on its Tax information page.
The bands. PAYE is charged on the month's emoluments: salary, wages, overtime, leave pay, commission, fees and bonuses together. The first K5,100 is taxed at 0%, pay from K5,100.01 to K7,100 at 20%, from K7,100.01 to K9,200 at 30%, and everything above K9,200 at 37%. Each rate applies only to the part of pay inside its band.
The ZRA example. ZRA's page works the tax on K15,000: nothing on the first K5,100, K400 on the next K2,000, K630 on the next K2,100 and K2,146 on the K5,800 above K9,200. That is K3,176 of tax and K11,824 of net pay, and the calculator gives exactly these figures.
Pension. ZRA says that since 1 January 2018 pension contributions are no longer deducted before arriving at chargeable income, so the tax is worked on gross pay.
What it does not do. NAPSA pension and NHIMA health insurance contributions are not taken off the pay: the NAPSA website answered with a browser check and the NHIMA pages read gave no rate, so neither figure was read from an official page. Casual and daily-paid workers, who use separate ZRA tables, exempt allowances and benefits in kind are left out. Tax is rounded to the ngwee.
Sources. The bands and the worked example were read on 20 October 2026 at zra.org.zm (Tax information, Pay As You Earn). They may have changed since; ZRA's page is the one to check. These are estimates, not tax advice.

Split the month's gross pay into the ZRA bands: the first K5,100 at 0%, the next K2,000 at 20%, the next K2,100 at 30% and the rest at 37%. Add the four amounts. On K15,000 that is 0 + 400 + 630 + 2,146 = K3,176.
The first K5,100 of monthly pay falls in the 0% band, so a salary of K5,100 or less pays no PAYE at all. Above that line only the part over K5,100 is taxed, starting at 20%, so K6,000 a month pays K180.
No. The Zambia Revenue Authority says that since 1 January 2018 pension contributions are not deducted before arriving at chargeable income, so PAYE is worked on gross pay. Pension and health contributions shown on a payslip are separate deductions, and this calculator does not include them.
Only figures read on an official page are used. On 20 October 2026 the NAPSA website answered with a browser check instead of its rates and ceiling, and the NHIMA pages read gave no contribution rate. If your payslip shows them, subtract them from the pay after PAYE here.
The top rate is 37%, charged on every kwacha of monthly pay above K9,200. Because the lower bands stay at 0%, 20% and 30%, the share of pay taken as tax rises slowly: about 21% on K15,000 and about 32% on K50,000.
Yes. ZRA lists salaries, wages, overtime, leave pay, commissions, fees and bonuses as emoluments subject to PAYE, and cash allowances are generally taxable. Type the whole month's pay, including a bonus paid that month, to see the tax on it.
