The rates.
| Contribution | Worker | Employer | Who |
|---|---|---|---|
| Old age, disability and death (Law art. 33) | 7% | 15% in 2026, rising to 17% | Bahrainis |
| Work injuries (art. 47) | 0% | 3% | everyone |
| Unemployment insurance (Decree-Law 78/2006 art. 6) | 1% | 1%, paid by the Labour Fund | everyone |
| End of service (Decision 109/2023 art. 5) | 0% | 4.2%, then 8.4% after three years | non-Bahrainis |
The government also pays 1% of the wage into the unemployment insurance account.
Why 15%. Law 14/2022 started the employer's pension share at 11% in April 2022 and raises it by 1% a year to 17%, without naming the month of each step. Whether the steps fall each January or on the April anniversary, the rate from April to December 2026 is 15%. The next step, to 16%, comes in January or April 2027.
A worked example. A Bahraini on BHD 800: 7% is BHD 56 and 1% is BHD 8, so BHD 64 is deducted. The employer pays BHD 120 + BHD 24 = BHD 144. A non-Bahraini on BHD 450 in the first three years pays BHD 4.500; the employer pays BHD 13.500 for injuries and BHD 18.900 for end of service.
The ceiling. The Social Insurance Law caps the wage at BHD 4,000 a month. The calculator applies it to the pension and injury contributions; the unemployment and end-of-service texts work on the wage without repeating the cap.
Not included. GCC nationals, government employees, the self-employed, part months, and the minimum wage base that Decree-Law 44/2026 sets for people first registered from October 2026, which needs a Cabinet decision not yet read.

A Bahraini working in the private sector pays 8% of the monthly wage: 7% for the pension under the Social Insurance Law and 1% for unemployment insurance. On BHD 800 a month the deduction is BHD 64, leaving BHD 736. The pension part stops at a wage of BHD 4,000.
For a Bahraini, the employer pays 15% of the wage for the pension and 3% for work injuries, 18% in all, or BHD 144 on BHD 800. The employer's 1% unemployment share is paid by the Labour Fund for private-sector workers, and the government adds another 1%.
An expatriate in the private sector pays 1% of the wage for unemployment insurance. The employer pays 3% for work injuries and the end-of-service contribution: 4.2% of the wage in the first three years with that employer and 8.4% after. Non-Bahrainis are not in the pension branch.
Law 14/2022 set the employer's share at 11% when it came into force in April 2022 and raises it by 1% a year until 17%. The law does not name the month, so the step falls each January or each April. Either way the rate is 15% from April to December 2026 and 17% by 2028.
Article 17 of the Social Insurance Law caps the monthly wage subject to contribution at BHD 4,000. Above that the pension and work-injury contributions stay at their BHD 4,000 amounts. The unemployment decree and the end-of-service system work on the wage without repeating the cap, so the calculator applies them to the full wage.
The SIO uses the wage your employer registered, which can differ from this month's pay. Workers who joined or left during the month, GCC nationals, government employees and people first registered after Decree-Law 44/2026, whose base is a Cabinet-set minimum wage, follow rules this calculator leaves out.
