This calculator follows a Singapore salary from gross to take-home pay for a tax resident: someone who works in Singapore for 183 days or more in the year, whether a citizen, a permanent resident or a foreigner on a work pass.
CPF comes first, for citizens and PRs. From 1 January 2026 a citizen aged 55 or under pays 20% of monthly wages into CPF, on wages up to the $8,000 Ordinary Wage ceiling, so at most $1,600 a month. The rate falls with age: 18% from 56 to 60, 12.5% to 65, 7.5% to 70 and 5% after. Permanent residents in their first two years pay graduated rates, 5% and then 15% under 55. Wages between $500 and $750 a month pay a reduced amount, and nothing is due at $500 or less. Foreigners pay no CPF.
Income tax is charged after reliefs. From the salary the calculator takes earned income relief, $1,000 below 55, $6,000 from 55 and $8,000 from 60, and CPF relief, which is the compulsory CPF you paid. What is left is taxed at the resident rates: nothing on the first $20,000, then 2%, 3.5%, 7%, 11.5% and upwards in bands, to 24% above $1 million. IRAS lists these rates from YA 2024 onwards and no personal income tax rebate for YA 2026.
Why foreigners can take home more. A foreigner earning the same salary pays more income tax because there is no CPF relief, but keeps more cash because no CPF is taken. CPF is not lost: it stays in the member's own accounts.
What it does not do. The salary is treated as 12 equal months with no bonus, so Additional Wages and their ceiling are not modelled. Other reliefs, such as spouse, child, parent or course fees relief, SRS and CPF top-ups, are not applied, and non-residents are not covered. The employer's CPF share is paid on top and not shown. Every figure and its source are listed on the page, checked on 29 September 2026. An estimate, not tax advice.
A citizen aged 55 or under earning $84,000 pays $16,800 in employee CPF and $2,384 in income tax. Chargeable income is $66,200 after $1,000 earned income relief and $16,800 CPF relief. Take-home pay is $64,816 a year, about $5,401 a month. A foreigner on the same salary pays $3,695 tax and no CPF.
For citizens and PRs from their third year, the employee share is 20% up to age 55, 18% above 55 to 60, 12.5% above 60 to 65, 7.5% above 65 to 70 and 5% above 70. The rates apply to monthly Ordinary Wages up to the $8,000 ceiling set from 1 January 2026.
No. Foreign employees on an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit do not contribute to CPF; the CPF rate tables cover citizens and permanent residents only. A foreigner who is tax resident still pays income tax at the resident rates, but without CPF relief, so the income tax is higher and the take-home pay usually larger.
An automatic relief for anyone with income from work: $1,000 if you were below 55 on 31 December of the previous year, $6,000 from 55 to 59 and $8,000 from 60. Higher amounts apply to people with a disability. The relief cannot exceed the earned income itself, according to IRAS.
Yes, in effect. Compulsory employee CPF contributions on wages within the CPF ceilings are given as CPF relief, so they are taken off the salary before income tax is worked out. Voluntary top-ups follow separate rules. All personal reliefs together are capped at $80,000 a year.
No. The salary is treated as 12 equal monthly wages. A bonus counts as an Additional Wage for CPF, with its own yearly ceiling, and it is taxed with the rest of the income. Enter the bonus as part of the salary for a rough income tax figure only.
