This calculator works out a Korean employee's monthly take-home pay (실수령액) in 2026: the four social insurances and the income tax an employer withholds under the simplified table in 별표 2 of the Income Tax Act decree, plus local income tax.
The four insurances. The national pension is 9.5% in 2026, the first step of the reform that adds 0.5 points a year until 13%; you pay half, 4.75%, on your monthly income cut to whole thousands and kept between 410,000 and 6,590,000 won from July 2026. Health insurance is 7.19%, half each, and long-term care insurance is your health premium times 0.9448 / 7.19. Employment insurance takes 0.9%.
Income tax. The employer looks up your monthly taxable pay, without non-taxable allowances, and your family count, yourself and your spouse included, in the 2026 table. Children aged 8 to 20 take off 20,830 won for one, 45,830 for two and 33,330 for each further child. Above 10,000,000 won a month the table gives formulas, which are applied as written. You may ask for 80% or 120% of the amount instead. Local income tax adds 10%.
A worked example. On 3,000,000 won a month, single: pension 142,500, health 107,850, long-term care 14,170, employment 27,000, income tax 74,350 and local tax 7,430. Take-home pay is 2,626,700 won, 87.6% of gross.
Not included. The year-end settlement, bonuses paid in a separate month, subsidies for small workplaces and the employer's own contributions. Where the sources do not state the rounding, amounts are cut to the won or to 10 won, so a payslip can differ by a few won. Take the monthly pay, subtract the four social insurances (pension 4.75%, health 3.595%, long-term care on top of health, employment 0.9%), then the income tax from the official simplified table for your pay and family size, and local income tax of 10% of that tax.
The rate rose from 9% to 9.5% in 2026, split equally, so an employee pays 4.75%. It rises by 0.5 points every year until it reaches 13% in 2033. From July 2026 it applies to monthly income between 410,000 and 6,590,000 won, so the most an employee pays is 313,025 won.
Health insurance is 7.19% of monthly pay, half paid by the employee, so 3.595%. Long-term care is the health premium times 0.9448 divided by 7.19, about 13.14% of it. On 2,000,000 won that is 71,900 won plus 9,440 won, with the last won digit dropped.
Count everyone you claim the basic deduction for, yourself and your spouse included, so a married couple with two children counts four. Children aged 8 to 20 also lower the tax: 20,830 won for one, 45,830 for two and 33,330 more for each further child.
Yes. Under article 194 of the Income Tax Act decree you may ask your employer to withhold 80% or 120% of the table amount, and 100% applies when you choose nothing. Less withheld now means less refunded, or more to pay, at the year-end settlement.
Payroll systems drop the last won digit at different steps, and the sources state that rounding only for health and long-term care insurance. The national pension also uses the income reported each July rather than this month's pay, and bonuses can change the month's tax.
