This calculator works out the yearly tax on a salary in Sweden for 2026 the way Skatteverket builds its tax tables, from its technical description for the 2026 tables (SKV 433).
Grundavdrag. The basic deduction depends on income and the price base amount of 59,200 kr: from 25,041.60 kr, up to 45,584 kr in the middle and down to 17,345.60 kr above 466,496 kr, rounded up to hundreds.
Municipal tax. On the income left after the grundavdrag you pay your municipality's and region's rate, plus the burial fee and, for members, the church fee. Skatteverket's tables use an average of 34% in all for 2026.
State tax. 20% on taxable income above 643,000 kr.
Reductions. The 7% pension fee is credited back in full. The jobbskatteavdrag, which grows with income up to about 3.027 price base amounts less the grundavdrag times your municipal rate, lowers the municipal tax, and so does a reduction of 0.75% of taxable income above 40,000 kr, at most 1,500 kr.
Public service fee. 1% of taxable income, at most 1,184 kr.
A worked example. On 40,000 kr a month: grundavdrag 17,400 kr, municipal tax and fees 157,283 kr, jobbskatteavdrag 53,134 kr, reduction 1,500 kr, public service 1,184 kr. Tax is 103,833 kr, leaving 376,167 kr, 31,347 kr a month.
Checked against Skatteverket's examples. Every worked example in SKV 433 comes out the same, down to the 2,062 kr total for a 28,000 kr income.
Not included. People 66 or older, sickness compensation, other deductions and capital income. For holiday pay, see the Sweden Semesterersättning Calculator.

The grundavdrag comes off the yearly salary, and municipal tax plus burial and church fees are charged on the rest. The jobbskatteavdrag and the earned-income reduction then lower the municipal tax. On 40,000 kr a month at Skatteverket's 34% average, tax is 103,833 kr a year and 31,347 kr a month is left.
State income tax of 20% applies to taxable income above 643,000 kr for 2026, which is the skiktgräns. Before the grundavdrag, the breakpoint is 660,400 kr a year for people under 66, roughly 55,000 kr a month. Only the part of income above the limit is taxed at the extra 20%.
Skattereduktion för arbetsinkomst depends on income and the municipal rate. Under 66, it grows from the first krona to a top of 3.027 price base amounts, 179,198.40 kr, less the grundavdrag, times the municipal rate. At a 32.84% rate and 480,000 kr a year it is 53,134 kr.
The basic deduction is built from the price base amount of 59,200 kr. It starts at 25,041.60 kr, rises to 45,584 kr for incomes between 2.72 and 3.11 price base amounts, then falls to 17,345.60 kr above 466,496 kr. Skatteverket rounds it up to whole hundreds.
The allmän pensionsavgift of 7% is charged on income up to 673,038 kr, at most 47,100 kr, but a tax reduction of the same amount cancels it against your income tax. For almost everyone it changes nothing on the payslip; only the very lowest incomes notice it.
The radio and TV fee is 1% of taxable income for everyone aged 18 or over, at most 1,184 kr a year in 2026. It is collected with the tax, so it appears inside the monthly tax deduction rather than as a separate bill.
