The resident rates. URA's current table, for 2026/27, taxes the total monthly income:
| Monthly income (UGX) | PAYE |
|---|---|
| up to 335,000 | nil |
| 335,001 to 410,000 | 20% of the amount over 335,000 |
| 410,001 to 485,000 | 15,000 + 25% of the amount over 410,000 |
| 485,001 to 10,000,000 | 33,750 + 30% of the amount over 485,000 |
| above 10,000,000 | as above + 10% of the amount over 10,000,000 |
Non-residents pay 10% from the first shilling up to UGX 335,000, then 33,500 + 20% to UGX 410,000 and 48,500 + 30% above, with the same extra 10% above UGX 10 million. A resident has a permanent home in Uganda or is there 183 days or more in the financial year.
NSSF. The employer deducts 5% of total gross monthly wage and adds 10% of its own, 15% in all. URA taxes the total income, so NSSF does not reduce PAYE.
A worked example. UGX 1,500,000 a month: PAYE 33,750 + 30% of 1,015,000 = UGX 338,250; NSSF UGX 75,000; net pay UGX 1,086,750. The employer adds UGX 150,000 of NSSF.
Not included. Local Service Tax, charged by local governments in fixed yearly amounts; a second employment, taxed at a flat 30%; benefits in kind and exempt allowances. An estimate, not tax advice.

URA's resident table: nil up to UGX 335,000 a month; 20% of the amount over 335,000 up to 410,000; 15,000 plus 25% over 410,000 up to 485,000; 33,750 plus 30% over 485,000. Above UGX 10,000,000 a month another 10% is added on the excess.
A resident employee pays no PAYE on monthly income up to UGX 335,000, about UGX 4.02 million a year. URA's page describes PAYE as tax on total monthly income above that figure. Non-residents get no tax-free amount and pay 10% from the first shilling.
NSSF Uganda requires the employer to deduct 5% of the employee's total gross monthly wage and add 10% of its own, a total of 15% paid by the 15th of the next month. On UGX 1,000,000 that is UGX 50,000 from the employee and UGX 100,000 from the employer.
No. URA charges PAYE on the total monthly income, salary and other payments, so the employee's 5% NSSF does not lower the tax. On UGX 1,500,000 the PAYE of UGX 338,250 is worked out on the full amount, and NSSF of UGX 75,000 comes off separately.
Income above UGX 10,000,000 a month pays 30% plus an extra 10% on the excess, 40% at the margin. On UGX 12,000,000 the main table gives UGX 3,488,250 and the extra 10% on UGX 2,000,000 adds UGX 200,000, so PAYE is UGX 3,688,250.
A resident earning UGX 1,500,000 a month keeps UGX 1,086,750. PAYE is 33,750 plus 30% of the UGX 1,015,000 above 485,000, which is UGX 338,250, and NSSF takes 5%, UGX 75,000. Local Service Tax, set by each local government, is not included.
